Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Suma Te Woke La. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Suma Te Woke La, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
It’s been bread into me, from a early age I was taught that I would be looked down upon due to my ethnicity that I would have to work twice as hard to achieve greater things, There will always be people that will stand in my way to place road blocks and obstacles in my path before achieving my goals. As a child I watche d what my mother went through raising my brother and I. I got to see with my own two eyes that what was spoken to me was true.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
The name of my company is called Native Ways Entrrtainment. It came about as an idea between two indigenous independent wrestlers , we talked amongst one another that the companies that we have worked for and the places that we have travelled to, the locker rooms that we have been in., were never once Indigenous owned, Further more once in a blue moon when we did get to work with another indigenous worker on the same card , we would later find out that they were only playing the part which insulted us, so we moved to create our own brand and style of wrestling which gave us a platform to help all true indigenous wrestlers , own their skill and craft in a square circle but we took it one step further offering them a opportunity to learn about their nations and tribes a way to reconnect and learn their peoples language.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Diet , training and study. Diet -learning macro nutrients , understanding and learning how the body reacts to carbohydrates attuned to your body specifically , some people have a high or low metabolism , this will get you to understand what the metabolic range is at.
Training – weight training is a must in order to have longevity as well as having the proper look and physique that will help you gain popularity and improve your standings., also reducing your risk of injury to you and others.
Study – film study, learning from the past, the heritage, respect and honor that you will be carrying forth to the new generation.. Helping you understand your appoments how they move in the ring., as well as how best to perform before the people that pay to see you.
If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
Time – I can’t defeat it , I can’t get it back, time is always against any professional wrestler and now that I have gained much more popularity travelling the world , Time is of the essence. With the rest of the time that I have to perform and entertain, I will keep moving forward with a purpose. Bringing recognition to those whom otherwise will not be recognized (MMIWR) murdered or missing indigenous women and relatives , meaning anybody without a voice, hopefully I can give them one.
