Summer, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
I believe we all possess unique traits that enhance our success individually. If everyone in a room was the same, there would never be any space for innovation or growth. Embracing your uniqueness is what allows you to stand out and succeed. By confidently owning who I am, I offer a fresh perspective for others and I’ve found that the differences I bring to the table make me not just successful, but also effective in leading and creating meaningful impact.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The most impactful qualities for any upcoming entrepreneur can vary depending on their specific goals, but there are a few universal traits that drive success. First and foremost is patience. Entrepreneurship is often a long and challenging road, and without patience, you won’t make it very far. There will be failures along the way, but these setbacks are valuable learning opportunities. My advice: don’t fear failure—embrace it as your greatest teacher, as long as you’re willing to learn and adapt.
Next is the importance of craftsmanship and commitment to quality. In an age where many businesses prioritize quick gains over long-term value, focusing on craftsmanship can set you apart. Define what excellence means in your field and continuously improve your skills. When you infuse your work with genuine care and attention to detail, you’re not only producing a high-quality product but also gaining the trust and loyalty of your customers.
Lastly, it’s essential to have a growth mindset. Stay curious, keep learning, and embrace change. Business landscapes are always evolving, and being open to new ideas and approaches will allow you to grow both personally and professionally.
