Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Summerlyn Feckner. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Summerlyn, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Imposter syndrome is hard, we all experience it on one level or another. The best way to overcome it though is to constantly speak nicely to yourself. You are worthy of this opportunity, you are good enough and you can do it!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a residential interior designer. I have a huge love for taking a space of a home that has created so many memories for families and turn it into a more functional space for them. The best part of my job is obviously creating beautiful spaces but getting to know the family and becoming personal is truly the best part.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three pieces that were most impactful on my journey are the following. Accepting that I didn’t know what I didn’t know and I had a lot to learn and even know continue to learn everyday, the industry is constantly changing and evolving. The ability to talk to people and stay calm in moments of high stress, remodels/building can be incredibly stressful and learning to navigate your clients in those high moments of stress is so important. Finding mentors that truly believed in you and want to see you go far, this has been so amazing. When times get hard being able to count on people to lift you up and walk you through these pieces is so helpful.
Advice for people who are early in their journey to develop these would be to stay open, work hard and always push yourself to grow.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
If I only had a decade left I would spend endless amounts of time with my family and friends and finding all the moments that bring that deep belly laughter.
