Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Supreme Nova. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Supreme , so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?

Being the only one in the room that looks like me has never been something I saw as a disadvantage—it’s always been a responsibility. I learned early that when you walk into spaces where you’re different, your work ethic, your character, and your consistency have to speak louder than anything else.

Through Supreme Nova Cutz, I focus on mastering my craft, staying disciplined, and carrying myself with confidence. When you’re secure in your purpose, you stop trying to fit into rooms—you start elevating them. My goal is not just to succeed in those spaces, but to open doors so the next person who looks like me doesn’t feel like they’re the only one.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m the founder of Supreme Nova Cutz, a brand rooted in precision, discipline, and the deeper culture of barbering. What I do goes beyond simply cutting hair—it’s about creating an experience and helping people walk out of the chair feeling more confident, polished, and aligned with the best version of themselves. Barbering has always been a powerful form of expression and connection, and I take pride in honoring that tradition while continuing to elevate it.

What excites me most about this craft is the impact it has on people and the community. The barbershop has always been more than a place for grooming—it’s a cultural hub where conversations happen, ideas are shared, and people from different walks of life come together. Being able to contribute to that space and refine my craft every day is something I take seriously. Every client that sits in my chair is part of the experience and part of the story that continues to shape the brand.

Through Supreme Nova Cutz, my goal is to represent excellence and intentionality in everything I do—from the quality of the cuts to the way I carry the brand itself. I want people to feel that energy when they interact with the brand, whether they’re sitting in the chair, watching the work online, or connecting through the culture surrounding barbering.

Looking ahead, I’m currently working toward opening my own barbershop, God willing, by 2027. The vision for that space is bigger than just a business—it’s about building a place where the culture of barbering continues to thrive through education, mentorship, and elevation. I want to create an environment where barbers can sharpen their skills, where creativity is encouraged, and where the community feels welcomed and inspired.

At its core, Supreme Nova Cutz is about growth, legacy, and pushing the culture forward.

Because to me, barbering isn’t just a profession—it’s a platform to build confidence, strengthen community, and leave a lasting impact long after the haircut is finished.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back on my journey building Supreme Nova Cutz, there are three things that have been the most impactful: discipline, teachability, and consistency.

The first is discipline. Barbering is a craft, and like any craft it requires dedication to improvement every single day. Early on, I realized that talent alone isn’t enough—discipline is what sharpens talent. Showing up prepared, studying the details of the work, and constantly pushing myself to get better has been a huge part of my growth.

The second is teachability. I’ve been fortunate to have teachers who took the time to show me the fundamentals and mentors who helped guide me along the way. Those people played an important role in helping me understand the craft and the culture around it. But at the same time, I also recognized that once the knowledge was given, the responsibility to apply it and grow from it was in my hands. The lessons were taught, but the work had to come from me.

The third is consistency. In this industry, consistency builds trust. Whether someone is sitting in your chair for the first time or they’ve been rocking with you for years, they deserve the same level of focus, precision, and respect for the craft. Staying consistent with your work ethic and the quality of your service is what turns a skill into a reputation.

For anyone early in their journey, my advice would be simple: value the people willing to teach you, stay humble enough to learn, and disciplined enough to apply what you’ve been shown. A mentor can guide you, and a teacher can give you knowledge, but your growth ultimately comes from the effort you put in when nobody is watching.

That mindset is what continues to shape the path forward for me and for Supreme Nova Cutz—honor the guidance you receive, but take full responsibility for the work that follows.

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?

I believe it’s important to know your strengths and go all in on them, but at the same time you can’t ignore the areas that need improvement. Your strengths are usually what separate you and create your identity in whatever craft you’re pursuing. In barbering, that might be precision, attention to detail, creativity, or the way you connect with clients. Those strengths are what people remember and what build your reputation.

At the same time, the areas you’re weaker in can’t be neglected. Growth happens when you’re honest with yourself about what still needs work. Early in my journey I focused heavily on mastering the technical side of cutting hair—understanding the fundamentals, improving my fades, sharpening my eye for detail. But I also realized that being a great barber isn’t only about the haircut. It’s about professionalism, communication, time management, and how you carry yourself as a brand.

For me, building Supreme Nova Cutz meant leaning into my strengths—precision and pride in the craft—while also developing the other skills that allow the brand to grow. That includes learning how to run a business, how to present myself professionally, and how to build relationships with clients and the community.

My perspective is that your strengths should be your foundation, but your weaknesses should be your teachers. When you strengthen both, you create balance and longevity in whatever you’re building.

For anyone on their journey, I’d say focus on what makes your work special and continue sharpening that edge—but never get comfortable. The moment you think you’ve mastered everything is the moment you stop evolving.

That mindset is something I carry with me every day through Supreme Nova Cutz—keep refining the craft, keep learning, and keep raising the standard.
