Meet Susan Domelsmith Cabral

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Susan Domelsmith Cabral. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Susan below.

Hi Susan, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
My advice on finding your purpose is to quiet the ego-conscious mind and rely on the more subtle intuition of the subconscious. Notice the small synchronicities that could lead to a new life path or direction. For me, my feng shui journey started with the redesign of my jewelry studio where I was introduced to the practice of feng shui. Once I had seen success just from rearranging my furniture and felt a profound new confidence in my work, I knew that this was my path. I felt completely lit up and couldn’t wait to get started. I was in a local bookstore browsing for more books on feng shui, and there was one that was completely in the wrong section, but it stuck out to me (synchronicity) and I felt drawn to it. I bought the book, read it cover to cover immediately in a nearby park, and then researched the author. He was a local feng shui master who was giving a seminar series the next week. (Synchronicity again!) I signed up for all of his courses and he asked me at the end about my story as this was unusual for his seminar attendees. I told him that I was pursuing this as a career. He basically replied that I needed to slow down and practice my intuition training for at least 5-7 years before I could even think about becoming certified. This was a devastating blow to my excitement and momentum, but in hindsight, the study fit in perfectly with my retail career as I was able to practice on a much larger scale. Now twelve years down the road, I have my own feng shui consulting business and work with clients around the world.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am lucky to be aware of my purpose: to help people. I do this through three different branches of my practice.

Within my feng shui work, I ensure that my clients’ spaces are flowing with lots of good energy. I make sure that their surroundings are helping them achieve their goals, and that the areas associated with different areas of their life (career, relationship, health, wealth) are activated in the most beneficial way. I also help families understand each other on a deeper level by learning more about the qualities outlined in their four pillars birth charts.

Through my styling work, I ensure that my clients’ wardrobes are helping them feel confident so that they can more easily achieve success. I also make sure that we incorporate lucky colors for each client based on the elements present in their birth charts.

I have recently added a new practice, a gentle type of hypnotherapy practice that allows people to be in touch with their inner knowingness.

Through all branches of my work, I have seen people grow and heal in the most perfect way.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Intuition, Playfulness, and Determination.

I definitely recommend that people get in touch with their intuition. This inner voice will be so helpful guiding one’s journey in so many different ways.

Try to find ways to enjoy every aspect of your work and you will be drawn to it in new ways. Think about your goals in a “wouldn’t it be cool if I achieved this? Let’s see it happen!” mentality of playfulness instead of fear or obligation based. Great things happen when you are in the creative flow of play.

Determination – If one path to your goals doesn’t work, try something else. Always keep going even if you need to take minuscule steps for a while. No one can make progress from a state of exhaustion, take care of your mind and body.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
I have used this simple and amazing breathwork in my meditations with clients for years. Altering your breath pattern in a small way tells your body and brain that you are safe and in control.

Here is how you do it: First, empty your lungs of air. Then inhale deeply filling your lungs completely. At the top of the breath, hold for three seconds. Exhale all of the air out and when your lungs are empty, hold your breath again for three seconds. Then inhale, hold, and exhale hold. Do this cycle at least five times, and you will feel completely different.
