Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Susan L Petrella. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Susan L, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
It actually took a number of years/decades… I’ve always been drawn to intrapreneurial/entrepreneurial adventures… But, when I had the awesome opportunity to be a Business Advisor, PCR SBDC during COVID, I realized, “wow”, I have a knack for this founder stuff, advising on business strategy, marketing and such… Furthermore, I have a really really lengthy “rolladex” of resources and connections with which I can support my clients, founders who are looking to launch, scale, pivot… Its always always super to hear a founder’s story, why he/she is doing what he/she is doing, the back story of the venture’s history… P.S. I do have an MBA in Strategic Management/Marketing/Entrepreneurship which helps too… But, there’s nothing like decades of experience/expertise…
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Be curious (don’t stay in your lane, have many interests), leap off tall buildings (well not literally but take chances; me, I’ve had so so many one of kind opportunities), and give back (philanthropy tres important)… Best way is to just keep going, you’ll feel like an imposter sometimes, get depressed but get back on your feet… I love this one saying to – “I trust and work w/the flow of divine timing”, most times you can’t push, it will come…
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
Gave me a great education – BA, MBA, almost MA (Middle Eastern Studies, UofC) and showed me their entrepreneurial spirits – my dad had his own insurance and real estate agency, my mom although she didn’t work, was involved w/her community – League of Women Voters, her church: choir, the arts – longtime theatre, symphony ticket holder… Lifelong love, engagement in various ways w/the arts comes from her…
