Meet Susana Perez

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Susana Perez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Susana below.

Susana, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

Let me tell you, that imposter syndrome is a tough cookie. It can creep in even after all the late nights and the mountains you’ve climbed to get where you are. For me, the turning point was about self-compassion. I used to be so critical, beating myself up for every misstep. But then I realized, who talks to their friends that way? So I started treating myself with the same kindness I’d offer someone I care about. It’s a work in progress, for sure, but that shift in perspective helped quiet the imposter. Now, when those self-doubt gremlins show up, I can acknowledge them, but I don’t let them take the wheel.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

From crafting and selling trinkets as a child in Uruguay, the entrepreneurial spirit has always been woven into my DNA. Building a life as a single mom in the US only fueled that fire.

Years of experience in advertising, sales, management, and customer service honed my skills, and my cleaning company was a testament to that. It provided for my family, but a creative itch remained unfulfilled.

Fate intervened during a cleaning job. A client, a Book Writing and Publishing Coach, became my own personal plot twist. “Write a book?” I scoffed, a second-language learner with imposter syndrome whispering doubts. Her belief in me, however, was a megaphone drowning them out. In 2017, I sold my cleaning business and self-published my first book. Today, I’m a fourteen-time published author, nine of them with bestseller titles!

My greatest passion now is empowering others to unleash their inner entrepreneur. Sharing knowledge, pursuing passions, and building a life you love – that’s the dream. With the right mentor, anyone can turn their story into a bestseller.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back on my journey, three things really stand out as making a huge difference. First, there’s the whole resilience and tenacity thing. Building a life as a single mom in a new country? That takes grit. I wasn’t afraid to take on all sorts of jobs to keep things going in my cleaning company. Let me tell you, that kind of never-give-up spirit is essential for any entrepreneur. You’re going to face roadblocks, for sure. But if you can learn from them and dust yourself off, you’ll be miles ahead. My advice? Find some fellow entrepreneurs, build a support network, share your war stories, and keep each other motivated.

Second, I gotta say, being open to learning new things was a game-changer. When that book coach came along, even with English as my second language, a part of me knew I had to take a chance. That’s what being an entrepreneur is all about, right? Adapting, learning new skills – it’s all part of the ride. So, for those of you just starting out, embrace the growth mindset! Be curious, take classes, find workshops, and don’t be shy about seeking out mentors who can guide you. Remember, challenges are just opportunities to learn and get better.

And finally, there’s seeing opportunity everywhere. From selling crafts as a kid to leaping from cleaning houses to writing books, I’ve always had a knack for spotting those “aha” moments. That’s what separates the dreamers from the doers, you know? The ability to see a gap in the market, a problem that needs solving. So, train yourself to see the world through that opportunity lens. Actively look for ways to make things better, to fill needs. Talk to people in your field, ask questions, understand their challenges. That’s where the magic happens!
