Meet Svetlana Vasina

We recently connected with Svetlana Vasina and have shared our conversation below.

Svetlana , appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
Currently, I find a lot of inspiration in the city I live in – New York. The city’s museums and galleries are like my creative playground, full of fresh ideas and trends in art and design. I don’t want to stop growing; there’s so much more I want to explore in my art.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’ve been an artist forever. Whether I’m at home with my coffee, sketching at a big table, or at my easel painting with oils, art is my happy place. I studied at Moscow State University and the Stroganov Art Academy. Painting and illustrations serve as my language to record my surroundings and communicate with the world. Currently, I’m excited to be working on a new project with a team – packaging for wine grown in New York.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Continuous learning is crucial, not just in college or university, but through online courses and on-the-job experiences. Always keep evolving. Don’t be afraid! Don’t hesitate to showcase your work, submit it to open calls, or display it online on platforms like Instagram or Behance. Even if you think it’s not perfect, share it! Overcoming the fear of judgment and rejection is a pivotal step.
Be patient. Achieving the level you desire may take time. Acknowledging that artistic evolution is a continuous, sometimes slow, yet profoundly rewarding journey is paramount.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
The preceding year has been transformative both professionally and personally. I did art shows in the U.S. and other places, reaching more people with my work. I completed several major illustration projects in Germany for a clothing brand and an Italian cuisine restaurant. However, the most significant achievement is relocating to New York and obtaining the U.S. Talent Visa – a monumental step in my creative journey, promising new horizons and unparalleled opportunities for artistic expression and collaboration.
