Meet Sy

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Sy, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

My resilience stems from deep confidence in myself, a drive that is reinforced by the strong support system I have built over time. But honestly, it comes down to seeing opportunity. Whether you read, watch, or talk to people, there are windows of options that will appear. The main question I always ask myself—Where does this fit in my game plan? If it doesn’t, the idea gets put to the side.

My friends, family, customers, honestly anyone, all play a crucial role in keeping me motivated. I believe every person I interact with has a gem of genuine wisdom to offer.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am the owner of OFF TRACK, a clothing brand and retail showroom based in Long Beach, California. Born in NYC and raised on the East Coast, I have experienced a wide spectrum of environments, from rough neighborhoods to affluent communities. These diverse experiences have shaped a deep appreciation for art, fashion, music, DJ’ing, photography, and street culture. I enjoy a hands-on approach to creativity and take pride in being fully immersed in every aspect of this business.

I’ve been a motorcycle rider for over 25 years, and I’ve brought my street experience, that same hard energy, and dedication to OFF TRACK. Beyond running the brand, we are proactive in screen printing, photography, and video. Our latest and growing event is OFF MARKET—our version of a night market where we invite local businesses centered around unique food and music. We are organically growing a community built on authenticity and an exchange of cultures.

OFF TRACK continues to evolve as a lifestyle brand, deeply rooted in fashion, music, motorcycle, car, truck, and art societies. At its core, the brand values community over product—embracing diversity. We believe we cannot make it anywhere else if we cannot get our city behind us.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The three most impactful qualities in my entrepreneurship journey are patience, time management, and resourcefulness.

Patience is key because many people chase quick results, but I’ve learned to embrace the long game. I trust that my passion will outlast passing trends which come and go. When challenges arise or things don’t go as planned, I take time to reframe the situation, allowing me to clear my mind.
Patience is your road to crush, not exit.

Time management goes hand in hand with planning. It’s essential for balancing life and work while setting realistic expectations for what I can and cannot take on. There’s always more I’d love to do, but at some point, I have to make strategic decisions about where to focus my energy. To be honest, I want to do it all. Time management grounds me and being realistic keeps me focused.

Lastly, resourcefulness is crucial. I make full use of the tools available to me—whether it’s friends, family, fellow entrepreneurs, or the latest advancements in technology. The more informed I am, the better decisions I can make. With so much information out there, you have to weed the BS out. Everyone has an opinion or thoughts on what you should do. Take your time to filter the noise before you jump into a rabbit hole.
Leveraging knowledge from different angles and past experiences ensures that each step I take is intentional and well thought out. If not, things get sloppy.

Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?

I believe growth comes from actively improving areas where you’re not as strong. Looking back at my journey, I took on everything—some things I excelled at, others I bombed. One of the hardest lessons I’ve learned is that I can’t be great at everything, and even if I could, time itself becomes the biggest challenge. I know what I am good at, but it is the reinforcements that need attention.

As a single individual trying to create a brand and managing a location, there’s a giant list of responsibilities and tasks. There is a lot of hats to wear, but I know I cannot wear them all.

Letting go of certain responsibilities was and continues to be difficult. However, I believe it is necessary. The areas where I struggled ultimately became opportunities to bring in others who could handle them more effectively.

Today, my wife manages my schedule. Social content is now being edited by my team (2 of my closest friends). Payroll is automatic and I am looking into a bookkeeping service. And just recently, we struck a deal with a graphic designer to assist with our collection.

In the end, I realized I had no choice but to be more resourceful—allowing me to focus on what I do best while giving others the chance to contribute and grow.
