We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Syar Humayun. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Syar below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Syar with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I get my work ethic from my dad. My family migrated to the U.S. in 2005, and without hesitation, he entered the workforce. Throughout my life, I’ve seen my dad work many different jobs in various fields. Despite the changes in his roles, one thing that remained consistent was the effort he put in. He always made sure to do his best to provide for our family. I have followed in his footsteps, trying my best every day to work just as hard as he did.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is Syar Humayun, and I am the founder of Owl Sight Security Services, a security guard company based in Los Angeles. Our company provides services to residential communities, construction sites, and large festive events. This year, our team had the honor of providing security guard services for Create & Cultivate. Our company’s goal is to continue delivering quality service and building lasting relationships with both current and future clients.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Communication was one of the first skills I had to improve. I found it challenging to keep a conversation engaging, whether with clients or team members. I realized that effective communication was not just about talking, it was about listening, understanding, and responding with clarity. Over time, through practice, I became more comfortable expressing ideas and maintaining meaningful discussions. It came naturally once I focused on connecting rather than just speaking.
Persistence was another key factor in my journey. There were moments when things did not seem to go my way or align with the vision I had for my company. During those times, I had to remind myself that progress often comes through challenges. Staying consistent, even when results were not immediate, helped me push forward. Every setback became a lesson that strengthened my drive and reinforced the importance of showing up every day, no matter how difficult things seemed.
Lastly, I learned the value of researching and planning before making big decisions. I believe success comes from gaining the proper knowledge, developing a structured plan, and then taking action. Not every plan works out as intended, but that is where adaptability comes in. You study what went wrong, gather new information, and create a revised plan to move forward. This continuous cycle of learning and adjusting has shaped the way I approach both business and personal growth.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I’m overwhelmed, I remind myself that taking a break is okay. In the past, I used to push through nonstop, thinking that constant work meant progress, but I eventually realized that stepping back can actually help you reset and refocus. Whether it’s going for a walk, spending time with family, being around friends, or just disconnecting for a short while, those breaks help me return with a clearer mindset and better energy.
I’ve also learned to prioritize and organize my tasks instead of trying to handle everything at once. Breaking things down into smaller, manageable steps makes even the biggest challenges feel more achievable. Sometimes I’ll focus on finishing one small task just to build momentum, and that alone can shift my mindset in a positive direction.
My advice for anyone who feels overwhelmed is not to be afraid to slow down. Resting doesn’t mean giving up, it’s part of staying consistent in the long run. Learn to recognize when your mind and body needs a pause, take that time to recharge, and then come back ready to give your best effort.
