Meet Sydni B. Langlinais

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sydni B. Langlinais a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Sydni, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

I would say that is isn’t myself who keeps my creativity alive, it’s actually my clients! They are always coming to me with new ideas and inspiration for us to create and design from! They keep me on my toes and I enjoy every second of it.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am a graphic designer who owns her own freelance business (SB Creative) that specializes in custom invitations and brand design. I love creating a brand that accurately reflects my client’s personality and vision, whether the client be a bride or a business owner. For the bride, we start by introducing her wedding brand through custom invitations, and carry it through on wedding day with custom signage, menus, escort cards, napkins, cups, thank you gifts, etc! For the business owner, we begin by getting a feel for what they want their business to portray and their personality. We then create the perfect logo through trial and error, and then use it on business cards, letterheads, social media platforms, websites, apparel, and much more! I thoroughly enjoy what I do and I think my work accurately reflects that!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The first skill that is absolutely necessary in the graphic design business is knowledge and efficiency in the Adobe Creative Cloud programs, specifically Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop. It allows you to carry out your ideas in the digital age. Second, the knowledge of multiple print processes is also needed when designing custom invitations. When in the design process, you must know the limitations and/or beneficial qualities that transition from the digital stage to the final print stage. Lastly, I believe a great work ethic is key to success in any business, but especially this one. You have to stay on top of multiple projects happening all at one time. These skills have helped my business get to the level of great success it’s at, and many of them I learned while in college earning my bachelor’s in Graphic Design .

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

When I feel overwhelmed and the project must get done in a short amount of time, I’ll pause and write down a to do list of each step of the project, and start completing it task by task. It becomes not so overwhelming when my mind sees little tasks and not one huge one. If the project has a bit of leeway in time, I’ll take a break and come back to it the next day.
