Meet Sylvia

We recently connected with Sylvia and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Sylvia, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

I believe we are always developing, growing, maturing in confidence and our self esteem. Their will be seasons of our life were we feel like we have arrive. Then sometimes when we experience challenges in our life. We will encounter some form of set back Confidence grows from consistent action, small steps, and the ability to learn from our mistakes and see setbacks as learning opportunities. We all need to learn to be kind to ourselves and give ourselves grace. Especially during difficult times, Speak positive confessions and scriptures over our life. Have healthy friendships and relationships.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am a salon owner for over 27 years. I absolutely love being in our community and interacting with people. I’ve been in the Dallas area for the last ten half years. It’s been great for business. My salon specializes in healthy haircare. I love doing hair but I also love developing content and advertising. Since Covid I started working with brands to advertise their products and services. Just recently I got accepted in a large brand creators program. I am so excited!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back the most impactful knowledge I would give someone on their journey. First know who you are and what you have to offer. Second except your uniqueness. You were created how God wanted you to be! Third don’t change to fit into the crowd. You are different for a reason. Those who are for you will come and support your business or brand.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

On our spiritual journey their will always be a book to read that will help us to navigate through the highs and lows of life. In the beginning of this year I decided to take coaching classes. The classes lasted for four months. Coach Lex had a sessions on boundaries. It was so profound. I realize I didn’t have boundaries for people and also recognize that I needed to respect others boundaries too. One of her childhood friends is a well known therapist. We were blessed to close our last coaching session with her. Her book is called Boundaries by Nedra Tawwab.
