Meet Sylvia Cross

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sylvia Cross. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sylvia below.

Sylvia, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?

I am happy to wake up in the morning and see the sun.
In the evening I am equally blessed to see the moon and stars.
I am grateful for each day and humbled that I am witness to it.
This joy leads me to feel optimistic about the gift of life.
Where there is life, there is hope.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I have been drawing and painting for over 6 decades. I truly believe Art will save the world.
My business consists of 13 Artist studios, a gallery space, children’s space and a courtyard.
We feature Visual Artists,Mysicians,Writers,Dancers and More!
We teach multidisciplinary Art programs for all ages and have Fun!
We also show a variety of films in the courtyard and engage in rich discussions after the presentation.
One of my former students,Katie Farmer, painted a fabulous mural in the courtyard and has just graduated from Yale with a MBA in fashion design!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1: I was passionate about my personal engagement in the Arts and had happy accidents that I learned from.
2:
I had a series of older Adults who took me under their wing,or I studied biographies of successful wimen/ artists .
3:I
I am curious about all aspects of life and continue to learn new skills.

Advice:
Learn from others and be courteous to others.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I love to collaborate with other Artists, musicians, writers sculptors etc.
Recently,a group of Artists helped me to complete a waterfall project at the Blue Heron Nature Preserve. I would like to expand on this vision to develop awareness of beauty and strength in leaving nature unencumbered by the destructive nature of Man and create a cleanup and Artistic venture using Art and Music to honor these intrinsic places of beauty.
