We were lucky to catch up with Syrus Black recently and have shared our conversation below.
Syrus, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
It’s kinda hard to explain exactly where it comes from, but ever since I was a kid I just always knew that I have no other option but to make it and to achieve all my dreams. Being raised by a single mom with three kids makes you look at life differently, so I guess my work ethic comes from wanting to make sure my family is always good and that I’m turn is what makes me go hard
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Well for starters I am a producer and audio engineer, I’ve been making beats since about 2014 and engineering since about 2020. The thing I love the most about both of these skills is they go hand and hand what is a good song without a dope beat or without great vocals? But what I really love most is to paint a visual picture with words and give a beat life by adding the right words to it. Currently working on a few diff projects at the moment ( instrumental album , exec produced projects , & a few other things ) , but I’m also in the works of trying to open up my own studio as well.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I’ll say consistency, hard work , & dedication are the three main things. Anybody that’s up and coming and wanna get to where I am or every further remember to have fun and not put so much time into trying to make something perfect let everything flow organically.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
My momma always taught me to never give up and never let nothing stop me from going after what I want. Everything is obtainable as long as you stay focused and keep going !
