Meet Syvonne Richardson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Syvonne Richardson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Syvonne , appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
Creativity has always been a part of me, but sometimes we do get our blocks. I try to go back to what started it all for me. Vintage fashion shows, Classic black and white movies, taking time out to meditate, and collaborating on projects with other creatives to get the juices flowing.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a freelance makeup artist, originally from the United States Virgin Islands, currently residing in Atlanta, Georgia. I work for television and film, as well as servicing clients for their special engagements. Makeup has always been very dear to my heart since I was young. Creating new characters, for set or for Halloween events, but most importantly making woman feel beautiful about themselves by enhancing their natural beauty. My main focus is to keep growing as an artist and continually expand my business. As mentioned before, I’m from the Caribbean, so it’s only right for me to have a business based around my culture. I recently started a Carnival Makeup travel team here in Georgia called Queens of Mas. It is comprised of some of the best MUA’s here in Atlanta providing excellent service to get you prepared and glammed up for your ultimate parade day experience. This year we will debut in St. Thomas, for Carnival in April, 2023.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I can say being very persistent and keeping my faith in God is what has helped me to continue on this journey. There were tons of times, situations arise, and it felt like maybe it’s time to let it go. But when God gives you that vision and you believe in his favor, that keeps you holding on. I would encourage others to always put God first. Ask him to lead you and continue to steer the course. Keep working on improving your craft. There’s so much to learn every day. The day you stop learning is the day you start dying.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I’m overwhelmed, I try to take a step back. I read books, listen to music, or I even do crossword puzzles. I feel it’s best to do something that comes natural to you. Not much thinking to be done, it brings you peace and helps to center you again.
