Meet Tahiti Spears

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tahiti Spears a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Tahiti , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic stems from envisioning potential achievements and being motivated to work towards them. While many talk about manifesting dreams and goals, I believe it’s crucial to actively eliminate obstacles that may hinder our progress. I often contemplate whether we are inherently destined to play specific roles, and in my case, my surroundings provided a starting point. However, my imagination led me to a completely different realm, where I generated the energy that fuels my passion.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Essentially, I’m a graphic designer, but I’ve moved up to the role of an art director in certain spaces. It depends on the room and what I choose for the day. I’ve broadened my expertise into social producing, directing, and extensive branding. What excites me about my work is that everything can be different, yet there’s enough of a blueprint out there to guide me. We live in a world where nobody is purely original, so we’re all remixers. Just like when you’ve heard a song and the remix was better, I like to think that’s me. Currently, I’m working on a bit of everything but really diving into being an experiential designer. That involves taking a space and giving it a visual appearance, just like I’ve done in the past for many award shows, galas, festivals, and more.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Trust your gut; throw away the concept of perfect, as it wastes valuable time. Create a system that allows you to expand if you like and be willing to take on things even if you aren’t 100% sure you can do it. Trust that if you don’t like to fail, you will find the solution. Sincerely, dust yourself off and try again and again until it becomes second nature.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
They nurtured my talents and allowed me to follow a trajectory that brought me to where I am today. If any parents see their child curious about something, let them try it, for we never know what it may become. My parents never forced a narrative on me, whether it was about fashion, my opinions, or the odd things I would do. They let me develop but asked meaningful questions to ensure that the things I was doing brought me happiness. My father raised me with the concept that whatever you are naturally good at is supposed to be your career, and when you can naturally do it while getting paid, it’s like being paid for fun. Lastly, my mother instilled so much confidence in me that I don’t see challenges more like opportunities I can conquer.
