Meet Taivy Lapalmer

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Taivy Lapalmer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Taivy below.

Taivy, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

I got tired of sabotaging myself and then watching time go by as i didn’t achieve the things that I wanted. Imposter syndrome has impacted many chapters of life and stunted my progress as a college student and now as a young adult. Whenever i had an idea to pursue a project or make a decision in my career i would hold myself back. Why me? Why do I deserve this? Someone else is already doing this so it’s too late for me etc.

So to get over this, I would ignore negative thoughts or counter them with a more positive one. I also stopped looking for validation in others. Surprisingly, having other people around to give me a thumbs up crippled me because I was no longer listening and trusting myself.

I started small with low risk activites- just having a healthier routine in life. Then I implemented more consistent effort into content creation and desigining with the goal of just completing an idea. I don’t look for outside feedback to define my worth, I give myself grace, and I challenge any negative thoughts that creep up inside my mind.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am a content creator and fashion designer. I started on yotube back in 2019 making videos around my college life and fashion design projects and eventually pivoted into becoming a full time content creator with multiple social media accounts. I’m now a tiktoker, blogger, and micro-influencer on Instagram.

I launched my fashion brand EMPRIS in 2023 and started off introducing my audiences to my work through creative photoshoots and fashion film. EMPRIS is a fantasy fashion brand highlighting diverse bodies and faces with modern style influence and vintage moments. The driving force behind launching my brand was to be able to tell a tragically romantic story about a young ruler destined for power who desperately wants to heal the world. From the bottom of our feet to the top of our crown, there is an eternal love that lives on through the fabric of my designs. More so, EMPRIS is not meant to be understood my everyone. She is found only by those who know what they seek.

My blog is https://allthingstaivy.blog- a multi faceted fashion and lifestyle site. I created this blog as another way to dive deeper into my mind, share my lifestyle with others, as well as give advice and discuss the interests that I have beyond fashion- Gaming, Food, Travel, Art, Wellness etc. My goal is to show others that you can do more than one thing without compromising who you are as a creator. My career reflects the multiple layers of the human experience.

While I wear many hats, I typically split my time into two parts. Digital Creator and Fashion Designer. As a creator I work for myself creating my own content to either promote EMPRIS or grow my platforms. I also occasionally work with brands to create promotional content on a freelance basis. Digital creator also includes time I spend livestreaming on tiktok as a part time gamer and my blog postings. As a Fashion Designer, I spend time figuring out my collections and picking fabrics. Some days are super fun, while others feel exhausting. But in the long run, this is what I want to do with my career.

Right now I am most excited about my socal media career and having the platforms that I can leverage to support my dream of fashion designing. I would love for people discovering me to check out my social media platforms to learn more about me, my brand, and interests.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1. Strategic- Knowing out to come up with a plan and excecute efficiently
2. Empathy- Taking time to understand others’ feeling and situations
3. Patience- Anything I rushed into always failed fast

My advice for people who are early int heir journey is to have grace for themselves. Hardly ever do you have all the answers fresh out the gate and life can be a wild ride. Reaching any level of success or growth starts from within. I would say take time to do the work of understanding yourself and your needs. Also allow mistakes to happen by jumping out and just trying things to see what happens. Another key piece of information I learned was how much of a benefit it is to you to align yourself with people who know more than you. THIS opens doors and new pathways in your mind that you wouldn’t believe.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?

Being a creator/designer is an entreprenuerial feat. It requires risk and effort but not without it’s challeneges. Right now, most of the challenges I’m facing are financial. I know how to show up for myself and spend time working on my craft. Capital is hard to raise to benefit EMPRIS so my fashion design growth is slowed. Additionally, while I love being a digitial creator who inspires and supports others all the time, this career is seldom sustainable without monetization, sponsorships, and brand deals. I used to work full time where I traded all my free time for money. I was paid, but hugely unhappy. I’m happier now, but not consistently paid. I talk about the real challenges all the time with my mututal content creator friends and my online community. I have a feeling that this challenge will ebb soon and I’ll be okay on my path.
