We were lucky to catch up with Takara Smith recently and have shared our conversation below.
Takara , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I used to think that purpose was this mysterious thing that only certain people knew about or had. It took me feeling beyond lost and removing all distractions around me to really understand how important purpose really was. I read a book called Purpose Drive Life by Rick Warren and that changed the game for me. Purpose to me is a mindset and understanding that nothing you do is for you or about you. It’s all about the people you’re called to reach in your lifetime. I found my purpose by learning more about God’s intention for His people. The more time you spend with Him and develop your own personal relationship with Him, the more you’ll understand what lane He created you to be in and why.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My career can be defined by two words: connection and creation. While working full time, I also work as a makeup artist (when my schedule permits), create content on social media (when I feel a creative urge to do so) and am building a beauty brand. I also do some graphic design on the side. My focus right now is just finding balance with everything and recognizing that even though things aren’t perfect, I’ve created a life where I have the flexibility to do things that bring me joy.
It’s very easy to become consumed by what hasn’t happened yet and what you haven’t accomplished yet but when you stop and look at what you HAVE done, you should be in awe of yourself. Between doing makeup, working a healthy/flexible job, creating content on YouTube, Instagram and Tik Tok (@takarabreanna), and building my beauty brand (Takara Beauty)… My heart and plate are full!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Patience, purpose and tunnel vision. There’s a time and a season for everything. When it’s your turn, you want to be prepared. So remain teachable, learn more so you’ll know what your purpose is and focus on your own journey. You don’t want to miss your own blessings focused on someone else’s.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Take a nap! Take a break and get some rest. Rest isn’t a want, it’s a NEED.
