We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Talitha Imara. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Talitha below.
Talitha, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I think my confidence grew when I became more honest with myself and consequently towards others.
As I became more comfortable with myself I started feeling less like an “impostor”. My confidence has also grown over time because I know myself better and I’ve gotten experience. Performing on stage or recording in a studio is less nerve-racking now since I’ve done it more times. Experience definitely helps with boosting confidence. Besides this, I also believe that I give myself more grace (and space) nowadays in the areas where I still need to grow. As an effect of that, I’m less shy, because I understand that we all have things that we can learn, at any time in our lives. It’s okay to be a beginner, it’s okay to be bad at something and still want to do it. We can improve as we go.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Hi! My name is Talitha Imara 🙂
I’m a singer-songwriter and artist, currently spending a month in Tokyo, Japan.
I’ve come here with little to no plan, besides wanting to connect with other artists/musicians and hopefully sing at a few places. Let’s see how it goes!
I’ve been writing a bunch of new lyrics and am very much looking forward to bringing these out into the world.
I especially care about the lyrics being somewhat meaningful, positive and/or motivational. I think there’s a lot of noise in the world, a lot of distractions and things that disconnect us.
As I was travelling in the Tokyo Subway I noticed there were bird sounds. At first, I thought it was an actual bird, but later on realised they’re recorded sounds. I assumed it was a way of relaxing people’s nervous systems, as they say that birds chirping means there are no imminent threats, no predators.
So, in a kind of similar way, I would like my music to affect people positively, even if it’s in the background or subconsciously. Maybe they’ll realise later on when they’re singing it out loud that they’re actually saying something good 🙂
PS: Little tip for fellow musicians who are looking for people to collaborate with: I’ve recently found out about an app called Vampr which helps you connect with other musicians (very cool!). You can refresh your location when you’re in a different country so it connects you with the people around you.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I honestly feel I’m still very early in my journey. “The best is yet to come!” 🙂 But the most important qualities, skills, and/or areas of knowledge I can think of, thus far in my story, would be; Patience, perseverance, taking action, and I would add a fourth: study/learn.
My advice on how to develop or improve is to practice. Practice as much as you can.
Find like-minded people and practice/create together. If you have someone else/ a band, your growth will go faster. At least, that has been my experience.
I also like to record myself and listen. Then repeat the things I like and try to better the parts I’m not happy about.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m always open to collaborating. I’d love to create some beautiful songs with meaningful lyrics!
I love all kinds of genres but right now I’d love to combine RNB, Neo-soul, with some Caribbean sounds; trompets, flutes, “palitos” etc. Happy, danceable tunes.
To connect with me you can send an email to [email protected] or find me on Vampr.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
