Meet Tamara Herl

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tamara Herl. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Tamara, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

Finding my life purpose has definitely been a journey.

Initially, I knew that I wanted to do something that I enjoyed, and that helped other people at the same time. So, I got the training and qualifications to become an art therapist.

As I worked with my clients, I noticed that many of them struggled with issues related to spirituality. After I received the training to become a licensed professional counselor and a life coach, I began studying spirituality. I discovered that being in nature is healing on both the physical and spiritual levels.

In the midst of the troubling times we are facing today, it has become clear that what many people need the most is to become spiritually sovereign. We’ve been conditioned to take the “us versus them” stance, but that is only creating more chaos and discord in the world. So I have shifted my focus a bit to help people claim their spiritual sovereignty.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

The thing I’m focused on the most currently is helping people tap into what is called “Self” in Internal Family Systems. It’s the aspect of the Divine that lies at the core of each of us.

Self can never be damaged. It is always whole and complete, and it can never be extinguished. However, just as the clouds sometimes form a thick layer that hides the sun, different Parts of us can block the Self from shining through. We’re all born with Parts, including a Child Part. And new Parts emerge as we encounter challenges and trauma in life. When we encounter challenges, Protector Parts become active. Their job is to protect the traumatized Child Parts, and they often show up by overreacting.

Another way to see this is to imagine that our internal landscape is like a bus that has many passengers on it. Ideally, we want Self to be driving the bus, because Self lives from a place of compassion, courage, clarity, and connectedness. When we operate from that aspect of ourselves, we can show up in ways that align with our values.

When we look around us in the world today, we see a lot of people getting triggered and operating from their Protector Parts, rather than from their internal core of Wisdom. There are many things in place in society that trigger us to respond from a place of fear or victimhood.

This is why I’m helping people to reclaim their Sovereignty. I show them how to use art and nature to get out of fight or flight mode and tap into the spark of the Divine within them so they can rise above the chaos and discord.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three areas of knoweldge that have been most impactful on my journey are:
1. Developing a Spiritual Practice
2. Unleashing Creativity
3. Building a Strong Connection with Nature

For those who are early in their journey of growth, I invite people to find what resonates with them. When I speak of sovereignty, I encourage people to take a careful look at the spiritual teachings they grew up with. Consider what you resonate with. Don’t just blindly accept what you’ve been taught, but consider, “Does this work for me?” If it does, then embrace it. If not, let it go and find something that is a better fit.

Another societal norm I encourage people to break free of is the common belief : Only some people are artists. Pablo Picasso said, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up”. We’re conditioned to believe that if we can’t paint like Picasso or Rembrandt, we’re not creative. That is simply not true. We are ALL creative, although we may have different ways of expressing it. And with the challenges humanity faces today, it’s imperative for us to embrace our creativity.

The third important area of knoweldge that’s important for people to embrace is connection with nature. Sadly, many people have just a surface level connection with nature, if even that. People think they are connecting with nature if they go for a run outdoors. And while that’s better than nothing, a deep connection with nature is VERY different. To create that deep connection, find a spot in nature that’s easily accessible. Spend 20 minutes there focusing fully on what you notice with all of your senses. Trees give of a substance called Phytoncides that have antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and mood-enhancing properties. They can boost your immune function and reduce stress. I was delighted to learn this when I because a Certified Forest Therapy Guide.

Another benefit of deeply connecting with Nature is that it can be used for divination, much like the use of oracle cards. I have been amazed to discover the profound Wisdom the Universe shares with me through Nature when I ask for guidance. This is especially helpful in rising above the tendency to react from fear or anger in the face of what’s happening in the world today. Deep connection with nature can help a person know what meaningful action they can take if they want to create change for the better.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Currently I’m looking for partners who are interested in helping humanity learn how to embody Unity Consciousness.
For example, I’ve hosted a couple of Chalk-Ins, which are a peaceful form of protest that help people rise above divisive behavior and focus on the common needs and values that we all share. At Chalk-ins, participants draw images on squares of sidewalks to illustrate their values.

Also, recently I challenged myself to create 30 Crystal Grids in 30 days, as a way to stay connected to Divine Guidance and avoid being drawn into us vs: them and fear-based thinking. I’m looking for people who have space available and would be willing to host the Crystal Grid Art Show/ Interactive Experience that I’m creating.

I would also love to partner with any organizations or businesses that want to help their employees form a closer bond with Nature so they can show up as the best selves in the workplace. I can bring nature items to the organization or business and guide people through an experiential that can help them feel more relaxed and be more happy and productive.
