We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tamara Mechael a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tamara, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
“Finding your purpose” is something that people have been talking about more and more over the previous years, as it should be. When I was younger, people were just starting to promote the whole “Be yourself, follow your dreams” journey, but it was still considered pretty much taboo to find your purpose at a young age. Kids are often told “you will grow out of it” or “it is just a phase” when they relay to others that they want to, in fact, turn their favorite hobby or passion into their lifestyle. Adults often brush this off as childish innocence, though many children are getting their purpose (which was so clear to them at a young age) denied and put down. Because of this, they may even forget what it is they were meant to do in life as the years pass. What seems like a simple word of advice turned into the end of a person’s journey before it even began. I am blessed to have a mother who recognized my gifts/talents, and then nurtured, supported, and eventually professionally facilitated them into feasible careers. I knew my purpose because God told me when I was young what I was supposed to do with my life- and I have always known I am going to do it!
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I love words in all their forms. My goal as a writer is to change the world with words by saying what needs to be said. Through songwriting, screenwriting, and even composing novels, the underlying theme of what I write is that I do it for the sake of others around the world. There are a lot of messages being spread right now, and people are being skewed in a lot of mental directions. I want to be the written reminder that no matter what, everybody can be happy and full of love! There is a lot of room right now for inspiration worldwide, and I want to provide that for those who need it, especially younger people.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Talent, Humility, and Faith (not necessarily in that order) are three factors that have been most detrimental along my journey. Having taught myself how to read and having begun composing short stories by age three, I knew God had given my a gift for words. This was only expanded upon further through my life! Humility has been important because I think it is one thing that was the common difference between a lot of the people with whom we worked/met “on the way up.” Many people have issues with traits like ego or pride, leading them to their ultimate downfall and, therefore, eliminating them from the “Competition” down the line when we are still standing. Always be humble and a good person- it will come back to you either way. Lastly though most importantly, my faith has held me through this journey. Without my faith, I say without a doubt that I would not have made it through the hardships I’ve endured. Without the help of Jesus along the way and to this day, I would be nowhere in my career. To reach otherworldly heights, you’ve gotta have otherworldly assistance. The type of assistance you choose makes the difference- choose wisely and keep your eyes open! The industry does not play games, although it is (very simply put) a giant one itself. 🙂
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
I am a completely different person today than I was twelve months ago. Last September, I was working on gathering my contacts and planning for the future of my career. Things were looking up, and then I lost my best friend Julianne to a car accident in November, 2023 and my life took a complete turn. A few months after a hiatus, I came back hard and nonstop. To say I am exhausted is unfair to people who are exhausted from doing jobs they hate, so at least I am exhausted from living a life I love. So let’s not call it exhausted- let’s call it busy. My mind is clearer than ever yet I’ve never been at a more confused state in my life. Being 22 is weird for me. It definitely has not been how Taylor Swift described it, but hey, to each their own. 🙂 I am coming for 2023 heavily though! The world is not ready. Since childhood, I’ve always said the 2020s would be mine! Anybody who knows me knows two things- I do not stop, and I do not fail! All in Jesus’ Name.
