We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tamara Perry a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tamara , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I got my work ethic from my mom & dad Vickie Nix and Ray Wilson. My mom was more on the corporate side working as a full time RN. My father well he was employed at GMC and I promise if I could give you his job title, I would but ummm he never shared that with me lol you know how parents use to tell kids to stay in a kids place haha. Both of my parents also were entrepreneurs’ my mother sold Avon, and my dad had a T shirt line L.P.R.E. My parents worked so much I was probably working in my mother’s womb. It was birthed in me to work, work, work. I told myself I will never be broke when I grew up. I started working my first job at 14 years old at Boston Market and from there on my working journey continued. When I was little, I loved spraying my Grandmothers Hallie D and mom’s perfume. So, I would always say when I grow up, I am going to have my own fragrance line. I recall someone telling me that I had to be famous to pursue that dream. That deterred me from moving forward on my dream. Now let’s go from 1993 to 2019. I was and always have been a huge fan of roll-on oils. I saw someone was like you can start your own business selling these. Well, I tried it, now this was right around the time the pandemic started so it was indeed a struggle trying to push designer type body oils. I had a few faithful clients; it was just moving to slow. I took a leap of faith and opened up my LLC this was January 2020. I maintained 3 jobs at once and still running my business flavorablesbytam. I went from body oils to creating my own fragrances. Everything worked out with God’s help and my Husband giving me the push to go forward. It’s nothing that I practice it’s a gift from God that I am able to mix and create fragrances.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Hello I am Tamara Perry with flavorablesbytam. I create and mix fragrances. I have a faith-based perfume line for men, woman and kids. Every one of my scents have their own flavor to it. My very first line that I created was my Galatians 5:22-23 line the fruits of the spirit, it has 8 fragrances for woman. I have a variety of notes from sweet, spicy to floral and woody. Alot of people always ask me how I know what to mix and truthfully, it’s all God. My nose can smell something one time and I can duplicate it and or if I don’t like it combine it with other mixtures. My next creation was Ahahron in Hebrew a men’s fragrance expired by my husband Aaron. This scent is so unique and smells so masculine with a lot of ouds. This is my number one men’s scent; I also created a Breard oil using this fragrance. Shortly after a team reached out and asked me to create a fragrance line for them. I created a fragrance called David, with some fresh aquatic notes. I created a his and her scent for a client named Emerge-Him & Emerge Her with beautiful vanilla notes. My daughter’s scent is #1 Ra’Dior made for a Princess line. I have an additional of 15 more-woman scents and 10 more men’s scents created by me. My latest men’s scent is Gladiator. In the meantime, I am working on creating swag bag for events and working with a new client to create 8 new scents, I take pride in my products; I am the only person that adds diamonds to all my woman bottles and even my scented hand sanitizer. I am currently open for booking perfume parties and vendor events. The end goal is to have everyone in the world smelling like flavorablesbytam. If you are allergic no worries, I can help you. I have organic products and also essentials oils. Please check out my website flavorablesbytam, com for scents, orders and future events.
Have a Flavor -Filled Day!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Communication, Networking, Content is everything. It may look like no one is paying attention or watching but keep going and keep posting keep putting the work in. I promise you will see the light at the end of the tunnel. Always keep God first and remain humble.
