We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tamara Vasquez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tamara below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Tamara with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Well, that’s a good question. I believe it all started with my parents. My parents always worked very hard to take care of all of us. My parents always showed us if you work hard, you will be successful. My parents owned their own business, and we were able to afford things and go on vacations. I knew I always wanted to the same with my own family. So, I thank my parents for all they have taught and sacrificed for me.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m Tamara Vasquez and I own Body Potions, LLC. I’ll start with I have a goat farm such fun. I mean have you ever played with one? Let me tell you it’s amazing. Weve had goats for a while when my kids did 4H. Something about them just gave me peace. They really balanced my soul. We showed them and milked them and watched them have kids and just realized I didn’t want to live without them. One day when we realized we had way too much milk in our freezer, we decided to start crafting. One thing led to another, and Body Potions was started 12/2019. We havent looked back and we have grown. The most exciting part is the goats really.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Starting a business is an adventure in itself. I’ve learned to be humbled, honest with myself and thankful for my family and friends. When you start a business, you really don’t know what to expect really. It’s a lot of hard work, like having a small baby. It takes up all your time. You eat, sleep and live this business. If i would give advice, I’d say to take your time and give your best. If you don’t then you’ll never know if it was worth it. It was hard and fun at the same time. I’ve met a lot of people who guided me when I needed someone to talk to. Seek help when you need it and take breaths along the way. You’ll do great and I’m rooting for you.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My family for sure! My small business has been a struggle at times. If it wasn’t for my husband and my children, I wouldn’t have been able to give it a go. My husband worked and funded my business. My kids helped me milk the goats so I could make my goat milk soaps and lotions. We made it a family affair and I’m so glad we did it together. Body Potions is a labor of love, and it has helped bring us closer together. I am very thankful for them.
