Tamara, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

The journey to discovering my purpose in media is deeply rooted in my love for literature and a genuine desire to uplift the independent film industry. The reflective time indoors during the 2020 pandemic allowed you to slow down and focus on shaping my brand and vision. This period wasn’t just about consuming media; it was about finding ways to create, support, and contribute to it in a meaningful way.

With the encouragement of EyeCU Reading and Social Network, my book club, I found the support and motivation I needed to explore and amplify my voice within the media landscape. They continuously affirm my path, showing me how my love for uplifting storytelling—whether through the pages of a book or the frames of a film—serve as a bridge to connect, inspire, and elevate others.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

My brand, Tam Telling Tales, beautifully captures my passion for storytelling across mediums. Starting with book reviews and evolving into a dynamic platform for interviews with renowned authors and personalities like Sedeqa Johnson, Victoria Christopher Murray, and Daniel Black. I’ve created a unique voice that resonates with book lovers and moviegoers alike. As an advocate for literacy, my moniker on the red carpet, encourages every guest to “read a book,”. It also helps to set me up as more than an interviewer-I’m a promoter of learning and storytelling.

The addition of “Read A Book” merchandise on my website reflects my commitment to spreading this message even further. My interviews, where I sit down with storytellers to discuss their journeys candidly, bring a refreshing blend of insight and entertainment to my audience. It’s clear that Tam Telling Tales is much more than a brand; it’s a purpose-driven mission to inspire and uplift through the power of stories.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

My emphasis on interpersonal communication, jovialness, and respect for artistic expression adds a genuine warmth and authenticity to my interactions. These skills not only make my interviews enjoyable but also create a safe space for my guests to share openly, which resonates deeply with the audience. By bringing this approach to each review, interview, and red-carpet moment, I’m not just highlighting stories—I’m building meaningful connections that celebrate creativity and foster understanding. It’s clear these skills are the foundation of what makes Tam Telling Tales so impactful.

My advice to those starting out in any journey in life is both practical and empowering. Recognize and integrate your unique traits into your brand. This helps you embrace your authenticity and build a distinct identity. In any field, staying true to oneself and showcasing one’s best qualities can be the key to making memorable impressions.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

Networking can be transformative, and it’s been a significant area of growth for me over the last 12 months. Building relationships with others in the industry not only expands opportunities but also deepens connections with those who share my same passion for storytelling. My networking skills undoubtedly contributes to the growing success of Tam Telling Tales.
