Meet Tamarra Campbell

We recently connected with Tamarra Campbell and have shared our conversation below.

Tamarra, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

It was a hot summer day on set in my hometown. The energy buzzed with excitement — people rushing, cameras rolling, dancers stretching, and a crowd gathering for a big scene. We had a team of over fifty people that day. I remember standing there, clipboard in hand, watching it all unfold.

Then I paused and really looked around. I saw faces that looked like mine — crew members, cast, and community members — all working together, all creating something bigger than ourselves. These were my people: friends, neighbors, artists, dreamers. Everyone was doing what they loved, and for many, it was their first time getting paid to do so.

In that moment, it hit me. This was my purpose.

I realized that my work wasn’t just about filmmaking — it was about transformation. Through art and entertainment, we have the power to touch lives, change behaviors, build community, and challenge the systems that often silence our voices. Every project we take on is an opportunity to spark dialogue, shift perspectives, and open doors for others to step into their own power.

My purpose is rooted in community and creativity. I want to continue shaping stories that reflect who we are — our joy, our struggle, our brilliance — and to make space for others to do the same. Because when our people are seen, heard, and valued, that’s when art becomes more than just storytelling — it becomes a movement.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My name is Tamarra Campbell, and I am the founder of TMedia Impact Solutions — a company dedicated to supporting arts and culture nonprofits and filmmakers. We provide development services that help creative organizations grow, while leading impact campaigns that turn powerful films into movements. Through our work, we help filmmakers use their documentaries and narrative films as tools for social change, connecting stories to real-life action and measurable impact. We also support film distribution strategies that bring these stories to wider audiences.

What excites me most about my work is being able to amplify untold stories and help artists and organizations build sustainable futures. Over the past few years, I’ve helped secure over $1 million in grant funding, supported community-based campaigns that provided bikes to kids, inspired legislative change in the health sector, and shifted public conversations on challenging topics. Through my love of film, I’ve found a way to blend art, advocacy, and strategy — helping others use creativity as a tool for transformation.

This year marks an exciting new chapter for TMedia. We’re launching our first 5-week course designed to help nonprofits strengthen their financial foundations and build meaningful partnerships that create long-term community value. Registration is now open for our January cohort.

In the spring, we’re expanding with a new Filmmakers Impact and Distribution Course, tailored to help filmmakers design and execute strong impact campaigns that bring their films — and their messages — to life.

You can visit our website to learn more about our upcoming classes and how we’re helping artists, filmmakers, and organizations use storytelling to make lasting change.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, there are three qualities that have truly shaped my journey: curiosity, resourcefulness, and empathy.

1. Be a forever student.
I’ve always loved to learn. Whether it’s diving into a new book, taking notes from an old article, or exploring forgotten texts at a garage sale, I find inspiration in learning. This industry moves fast, so staying current is key — but I’ve also learned that innovation often comes from looking back. Some of my most transformative ideas have come from concepts or stories that others overlooked. My advice: dedicate time each month to read, research, and explore something new about your craft. Growth starts with curiosity.

2. Be resourceful and frugal.
I’ve learned how to stretch every dollar and use every resource wisely. Understanding how to do more with less has helped me create meaningful impact even when budgets were tight. It’s about being creative — using your community, thinking differently, and finding solutions when something feels out of reach. This skill has not only saved me from stressful situations but has also taught me how to lead with strategy and purpose.

3. Lead with empathy.
Empathy is at the core of everything I do. It allows me to understand where my clients and collaborators are coming from and to meet them with compassion and honesty. Leading with empathy keeps me grounded and reminds me that what we do is about people — their stories, their challenges, and their dreams. Sometimes, the smallest gesture or shared resource can make a world of difference.

These three values — learning, resourcefulness, and empathy — have guided me through every chapter of my journey. For anyone just starting out, my advice is simple: keep learning, stay creative with what you have, and always lead with heart.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Yes — I’m always looking to collaborate with individuals and organizations who believe in the power of social change through media. I’m especially interested in connecting with public relations professionals and platforms that can help amplify the stories and impact work we’re doing at TMedia Impact Solutions. I want to continue showing up in larger spaces where conversations about art, equity, and transformation can reach new audiences.

I’m also eager to collaborate with filmmakers who are ready to integrate impact into their work and are seeking distribution or audience engagement support. My goal is to help storytellers not only share their films but also spark real change through them.

Beyond that, I love building partnerships that uplift both my work and my clients’ projects. Whether it’s providing in-kind support, connecting with your community, or joining as a speaker or facilitator, I’m always excited to inspire and support the next generation of changemakers.
