Meet Tameka Baptiste

We recently connected with Tameka Baptiste and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Tameka , thank you for joining us today and sharing your experiences and acquired wisdom with us. Burnout is a huge topic these days and so we’d love to kick things off by discussing your thoughts on overcoming or avoiding burnout
For a while, I thought I had to do it all, be everywhere and show up for everyone. Real estate clients, yoga students, family, the group chat blowing up… all of it. I was tired, stretched thin, and one group text away from a breakdown.

But then I had to check myself. If I’m not good, nothing around me runs right. So I started protecting my peace by literally putting me on the calendar. My “Me” time is non-negotiable.

Yoga became my reset button, not just something I teach, but how I stay sane. Even ten minutes on the mat or taking time out to meditate can shift my whole energy. And I let go of wearing “the hustle” like a badge of honor. Now I focus on setting boundaries, saying “no” without guilt, and choosing “yes” only for what truly feeds my soul.

Burnout still tries to sneak up, but I shut it down quick. My peace isn’t up for negotiation.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Some call it multitasking. I call it walking in my purpose. Besides being a wife and mom, I’m out here handling real estate deals and guiding yoga flows. I show up as The Melanated Realtor Yogini, making moves across NC & SC with purpose, focus, and good vibes.

I’m the owner of Relax, Relate & Real Estate, LLC, my personal brand where I offer services beyond the transaction, and also serve as the North Carolina Broker-In-Charge at Welcome Home Realty. I’m your go-to for real estate and yoga across the Carolinas—building balance in homes, bodies, and communities.

What makes my work exciting isn’t just helping people buy or sell homes, it’s supporting my clients in making one of life’s biggest moves with confidence and peace of mind. Real estate can be stressful, so I bring mindfulness and calm into the process, helping clients feel grounded and empowered every step of the way.

Beyond property deals, I’m focused on community wellness through yoga classes and events that encourage mental and physical health—whether it’s gentle yoga flows, mommy & me sessions, or chair yoga. I’m passionate about creating spaces where people can unwind and reconnect with themselves.

Right now, I’m on the hunt for a local spot to restart regular yoga classes, while still growing my real estate business.

At the heart of it all, my brand is about balance, helping others find theirs in life and work, while living mine fully and authentically. That includes being present for my biggest roles yet: wife and mom.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on my journey, three things stand out as the most impactful: resilience, communication, and continuous learning.

Resilience has been key—real estate and life throw curveballs, and you have to bounce back stronger every time. When things don’t go as planned, the ability to stay focused and keep pushing is what separates winners from quitters.

Communication is everything. Whether it’s with clients, colleagues, or family, clear and honest communication builds trust and smooths the path forward. Listening is just as important as speaking—understanding what people really need makes all the difference.

Continuous learning keeps me sharp and adaptable. The markets change, new tools emerge, and personal growth never stops. Staying curious and open to new ideas has helped me grow both professionally and personally.

For those early in their journey, my advice is simple: build your resilience by embracing challenges, practice active listening and clear communication daily, and never stop learning, even when you think you know enough.

Remember, success isn’t a straight line, it’s a climb. Equip yourself with these tools, and you’ll handle the ups and downs like a pro.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents, originally from Trinidad & Tobago, taught me values that became the foundation of who I am today.

My work ethic comes straight from my Dad, he always said, “Do more than what’s required,” because going above and beyond isn’t for credit—it’s about taking pride in what you put out into the world. From my Mom, I learned that confidence starts with how you present yourself, she made sure I knew that dressing to impress wasn’t about vanity, but self-respect. And from my big sis? She schooled me in having thick skin, staying strong, pushing through, and never letting anything or anyone shake my spirit.

But beyond all that, what meant the most was my parents letting me be me, even when that might’ve been hard for them. That freedom gave me the confidence to carve my own path and overcome challenges.

Those lessons didn’t just prepare me for work, they prepared me for life.
