We were lucky to catch up with Tamia Etchison recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tamia , appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
We keep our creativity alive by playing The Sims. This game allows you to let your imagination run wild as you create your own characters, build their homes, and control their lives. You can choose their career paths, their relationships, and even their personality traits. The possibilities are endless and it’s all up to the gamer. -@TamiaTheSimmer/ POC Sims Community Facebook Group Creator and Admin
I keep my creativity alive by seeing the beauty in the world around me and all of its diversities and uniqueness before then and recreating the things I see and love about life for my sims. – Akhyra Niles/ POC Sims Community Facebook Group Moderator
I keep my creativity alive by making my sims complete college and work while in school to show myself it’s possible and to never give up on myself. -Adrianna Edmond/ POC Sims Community Facebook Group Moderator
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am small content creator for the gaming industry and the main game that I play is The Sims. If you have never heard about or played The Sims, you should definitely check it out. In The Sims, players create their own unique Sims by customizing their appearance, personality traits, aspirations, and even their relationships with other Sims. Once the Sims are created, players are given the ability to control and direct their Sims’ lives in various ways.
I have created a Facebook community for POC Simmers. We have the freedom to collaborate, network, and promote our sim creations, stories, and builds. Each month we have contest and workshops that everyone is able to join and actually win prizes. Our motto is Be Seen, Feel Heard, Be Celebrated. We support each other in a variety of ways. All POC Simmers are welcome to our Facebook Group.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Consistency, learning how to content create and believing in yourself. My advice for people that are early in their journey is to keep going and don’t quit because quitting is easy. Be able to adapt and change how you present your content because you want to stay relevant.
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
Yes, I am finding my niche in the gaming industry and growing my fanbase hasn’t been easy.
