We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tamia Wells a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tamia, so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?
I want to start off by saying my background isn’t a weakness, it’s proof of my strength and every obstacle I survived is evidence that I’m built for resilience. When people doubt me, I remind myself that I’ve already done hard things. Nay-sayers don’t need convincing, they need time to see that consistency and results speak louder than the explanations they need. I put my faith into the Lord and not proving myself to people committed to misunderstanding me. I have learned not every opinion deserves access to me. All of my time is dedicated to staying grounded in my faith in the Lord, limiting negative voices, and focusing on communities that see my potential even when I’m tired.
Persistence doesn’t mean nonstop struggle so I always take breaks without guilt. Rest is resistance in a world that expects Black women to burn out quietly. Every slight, every closed door, every “no” becomes fuel. I persist not just for myself, but for the people who will see my story and realize survival can turn into thriving. I will always continue to persist because quitting would mean believing the lies they told me and I know my truth.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Well I can say I’m a pretty spontaneous and adventures person by nature. Lately I have been looking at myself in the mirror saying “girl you are an inventor and a law student” WHO KNEW?! I started with the invention idea in 2015 and now here it is 2026 and I have a “Patent Pending” status on my idea (talk about blowupuation). You don’t often see Black female inventors who take the extra step to legally protect their ideas, making that commitment both rare and powerful. Black women inventors are often told directly or indirectly that their ideas aren’t “big enough,” “marketable enough,” or “worth protecting.” Repeated dismissal can lead to self-doubt or the belief that protection is unnecessary or out of reach.
Which is why, after receiving my B.S. in Entertainment Business in 2025, I decided to pursue a law degree to make sure ideas like mine don’t get overlooked, undervalued, or taken. Im looking forward to exploring this new chapter of networking within this ” big boy” industry and my TV debut on my favorite show SHARK TANK!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Having faith and believing in yourself when no one else can see your vision is what carries you through the uncertainty before results exist. Faith in myself became essential when the vision was only visible to me. I learned to trust what I was building long before there was proof for others to believe in. Leaving the place where I was born and raised allowed me to see beyond what I knew. I was able to learn things I wouldn’t have discovered if I stayed comfortable. Don’t be afraid to learn different cultures and to communicate with people who don’t look like you. You’d be surprised how traveling and exploring new things can actually open your Johari Window.
Early on, your ideas may only make sense to you and that’s okay. Protect your belief, because confidence grows from action, not applause. Give yourself grace because you WILL make mistakes and may have to start over again.
You’re allowed to learn and pivot, as long as you stay honest with yourself and committed to progress.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My children have been my back bone, they are strong Christian believer’s and their prayers for me are ernest in every way. Not only do they pray for me but we are also business partners. My daughter (Ariyon Wells) and I co-founded Cruzn Cozy Records in 2021, an independent record label based out of Los Angeles. My son (Hey JP) who is the lead audio engineer and producer masterminds all the hit records created within the label.
Together, they helped turn Cruzn Cozy Records from a vision into a tangible, thriving label. Ariyon provides strategic structure, Hey JP ensured quality and innovation in sound, and their combined energy supports creative growth, teamwork, and consistency. Their contributions didn’t just make the label run they help it stand out, grow, and succeed.
It’s a beautiful feeling to be able to work with your family.
Next time we meet you will call me “Tamia Wells Esquire”
Stay Blessed!!
