Meet Tamika B.

We recently connected with Tamika B. and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Tamika, appreciate you sitting with us today. Maybe we can start with a topic that we care deeply about because it’s something we’ve found really sets folks apart and can make all the difference in whether someone reaches their goals. Self discipline seems to have an outsized impact on how someone’s life plays out and so we’d love to hear about how you developed yours?
My self-discipline me knowing what myself is capable of doing! Basically comes from a deeper perspective than what and how bad I want my dreams to be fulfilled.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I started my business in April 2019, My business has been running for 5 years online and in person now, Amazin Faces LLC has currently won a Pitch competition hosted by CHASE BANK and Baltimore City of Commerce’s. As a cosmetic small batch company offering beauty products and beauty services. We sometimes provide self care personalized gift bags for sponsorship services and vendor options. We have donated to Breast Cancer Awareness organizations and organizations around healing trauma in Baltimore, Maryland. I, Tamika B. – CEO aim to empower black entrepreneurs women and underprivileged overpopulated communities to bring awareness in building self esteem, confidence and social skills that can lead to equity health one day soon!!!!!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
First would be me being a Medical Mom to my nonverbal almost 7yr old son. My fight/ advocacy is differently from my everyday life at night I have to research everything to make sure I’m understanding what’s needed or what’s not needed.

Secondly working full time in the nonprofit social justice field is an eye opening experience that helps me understand how to navigate my voice to be a bullhorn and providing funding resources for East Baltimore, Maryland.

Thirdly speaking my most recent leadership training has benefited me greatly from John Hopkins Urban Health Institute – The Bunting Leadership Program which has helped my own personal experiences dealing with intense stress when dealing with deadlines and customer services challenges. Which has also helped me gain clarity about hosting community organization’s collaborative art social gatherings to uplift communities dealing with health equity challenges.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
The Black Butterfly: The Harmful Politics of Race and Space in America – Lawrence T. Brown.

Here’s what I learned from this book and by meeting Dr. Lawrence T. Brown in person is that ongoing historical trauma caused by a combination of policies, practices, systems, and budgets is at the root of uprisings and crises in hypersegregated cities around the country.
