Meet Tamika Marshall

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tamika Marshall. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tamika below.

Hi Tamika , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
My original reason for starting my Nonprofit was due to me being diagnosed with Uterine Cancer in 2015. When God spared my life from the treacherous disease without having to have Chemo or Radiation, I wanted to find a way to show my gratitude for him doing so. That’s the WHY and HOW Lady T Hope Brigade was created.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Lady T’s Hope Brigade is a Registered 501c3 Nonprofit Organization that started in February 2016 but rebranded in August 2021. Lady T’s was created to be a platform for providing support to those struggling with Cancer. We provide support/service by bringing/serving meals and needed supplies monthly to the residents and families of those staying at The American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge while receiving their cancer treatments.

We expanded our platform to be able to serve others in the community who may need a helping hand such as our “Unhoused” Residents in the community. Monthly, We provide each a personal hygiene and snack backpack while supplies last.

At the start of the 2022 School Year we started a Mentoring Program, Lady T’s “Sugar N Spice”. With the challenges our students face with Academic Learning and Healthy Youth Development we wanted to pour into our youth to show them how important their future is to us. Currently, we come into Jere Baxter Middle School, Nashville, Tennessee weekly to meet with our mentees. We provide a healthy environment focusing on the importance of education. We monitor their behaviors, attendance and grades. We also provide them with incentives when they reach their goals for the month and no infractions. Lady T’s has an open communication policy with our ladies and have created a safe place for them to be able to talk to us at any time, be it day or night. Lady T’s Hope Brigade is a PROUD PARTNER of The Metropolitan Public School System!!!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I feel the three qualities you must have with being in the business of nonprofits is one, having a giving heart and a love for helping others. Two, you must be dedicated because it is hard work and an unpaid job as far as finances are concerned but very rewarding. Lastly, you have to prepare yourself and have etched in your brain that you cannot expect a “YOU” out of other people this way you won’t be let down when things don’t happen as expected.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Lady T Hope Brigade is always looking for people to partner and/or collaborate with. I feel that we are STRONGER together and can make more of an impact. If that’s you feel free to call me 615-417-7081 or email, ladythopebrigade@gmail.com
