We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tamika Marshall. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tamika below.
Tamika, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
In 2015, I was diagnosed with uterine (endometrial) cancer. It was one of the scariest and most unexpected moments of my life. I remember feeling overwhelmed, uncertain, and honestly… just scared. But even in the middle of all that fear, God placed something on my heart. He reminded me that my story wasn’t over — it was just beginning.
After my surgery and recovery, I knew I couldn’t just walk away from that experience unchanged. I felt called to do something — to be a light for others who might be going through what I had just survived. That’s when Lady T Hope Brigade was born.
I found my purpose through my pain. I found my mission by walking through the very thing I thought would break me. Now I get to show up for others — with meals, care packages, words of hope, and most importantly, love. Every package, every hug, every smile is a reminder that we are not alone in this fight.
And that’s my “why.”
This work… this calling… is my way of giving back what God so graciously gave me — another chance, and a purpose bigger than myself.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
At Lady T Hope Brigade, we provide love, light, and support to those battling cancer — one care package, one meal, and one act of kindness at a time. Born from my own journey as a uterine cancer survivor, this nonprofit was created to remind cancer warriors that they are not alone. We serve by delivering cancer care packages across the country, hosting monthly dinners and bingo nights at the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge, and supporting families who are facing some of the hardest moments of their lives.
What makes this work so special? It’s the connection. Every time someone opens a care package or shares a laugh at one of our events, I see hope come alive again. It’s not just about what’s in the box — it’s about the reminder that someone out there cares enough to show up. That’s powerful.
We’re also excited about our latest addition: Lady T Links, a bracelet line created by my daughter, Kashara, to help raise funds for our mission. Each bracelet sold helps us continue providing these meaningful touches of hope to those who need it most.
What I want people to know about Lady T Hope Brigade is simple: we are fueled by love, led by faith, and rooted in service. Everything we do is from the heart, and our goal is to leave people better than we found them.
We’re currently preparing for more outreach in the summer months and exploring partnerships to expand our care efforts into other cities. So if you’re reading this and wondering how to help — let’s connect.
Together, we can remind more cancer warriors that they don’t have to fight alone.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Compassion & Empathy
This work is personal. You have to feel people — not just serve them. I’ve walked the road of cancer myself, so I lead with love, understanding, and real compassion. It’s important to see people beyond their diagnosis and make them feel seen, heard, and supported.
2. Resourcefulness & Hustle
Running a nonprofit means you’ve got to get creative. Whether it’s fundraising, building partnerships, or stretching $1 into a miracle — you have to know how to make it happen. I’ve learned how to hustle with heart, always keeping the mission front and center.
3. Lived Experience & Purpose-Driven Passion
I didn’t just start this — I lived it. My cancer journey is what gave birth to Lady T Hope Brigade. That personal connection fuels everything I do. Having that deep “why” makes every care package, event, and late night worth it, because I know lives are being touched.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Lady T Hope Brigade thrives off community and connection, and we believe there’s power in partnership. Whether you’re a business, a nonprofit, a healthcare professional, a school, a church, a survivor, or just someone with a heart to serve — we would love to work with you.
We’re especially looking to collaborate with:
Local and national cancer organizations
Healthcare providers and cancer centers Schools and youth programs
Faith-based groups
Small businesses and creatives who want to give back
Survivors and caregivers with a story to tell or a hand to lend
If you’re reading this and thinking “I’d love to help” — then let’s talk! Whether it’s volunteering, co-hosting an event, sponsoring care packages, or helping us expand to new cities, we welcome it all.
