Meet Tamiko Nesbitt

We recently connected with Tamiko Nesbitt and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Tamiko , you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?

My generosity was shaped by my parents. They showed kindness to each other, to their six children, to our extended family, friends, and anyone in need. They taught us that we were blessed and that we should help others. Through their example of selfless service, it was my desire to model their example and be a blessing to others.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Tamiko Nesbitt is a Christian author who writes children’s books and poems that convey the beauty, struggles, and victories of life. Her writing speaks to the human experience and to the living God who loves us and cares deeply about our journey. She writes poetry, fables, devotionals, and other works that offer hope, encouragement, and inspiration to God’s people.

Tamiko is a freelance writer and contributor to Strength & Grace, a devotional by Guideposts for caregivers. Her poetry, flash fiction, and short stories have received awards. Although she enjoys writing across genres, Christian children’s short stories are her favorite.

Tamiko believes it is crucial to teach children the importance of loving God and others (Luke 10:26–27, ICB). For this reason, her short story character, Scarlet—the Scarlet Macaw parrot—serves as a recurring character in her work.

Most importantly, Tamiko is passionate about encouraging others by sharing that God has purpose in everything, and that everyone has a purpose in Him.

In addition to writing, Tamiko enjoys designing and creating bohemian-style jewelry. She owns a jewelry business called Bohemified Jewelry & More, LLC. She values both the design process and the moment when the final piece comes together. For her, making jewelry is similar to writing stories—each piece takes on a life of its own, and she never knows exactly how it will turn out until it is complete. The elements of surprise and fulfillment are what she enjoys most.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

QUALITIES:

1. Commitment – Staying dedicated to my goals, even when progress felt slow
2. Initiative – Seeking out people who were doing what I wanted to do, even when I didn’t know anyone personally
3. Diligence – Learning to work while I wait, instead of waiting for the perfect opportunity to work.

ADVICE:

Dreams require investment and hard work. Nothing truly worthwhile comes easy. You will face “no’s,” failure, imposter syndrome, and moments of sadness—these can feel like uninvited companions along the way.

However, if you stay committed to your goals and continue honing your skills, growth is inevitable. Keep working and believing in yourself, even when others doubt you. If you remain consistent and keep pressing forward, you will make meaningful progress and see the results of your efforts.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?

I would spend that decade deepening my spiritual growth and drawing closer to God. I would travel more with my husband and spend more time with my family. I would write as many Christian children’s books and poems as I could, using my gifts to inspire and encourage others. And I would boldly pursue the business ventures I’ve held in my heart. The last of time would be used to glorify God and bless others.
