Meet Tara A. Nicolas

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tara A. Nicolas. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tara A. below.

Hi Tara A., thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
I don’t know if I’ll ever fully overcome imposter syndrome, but what I do know is I’m having more experiences showing me how much I’ve learned and how much I have to offer. And when I’m in challenging situations like getting on camera at the last second, working with a celebrity, helping a client, or on a creative project set, and that feeling creeps up, I let the work take center stage. Often, I become so consumed with the work that it allows me to coexist with those lingering fears and doubts in a way that no longer feels crippling. But rest assured, this is an ongoing process; some days, imposter syndrome is louder and more consuming than others. And that’s when I take a moment to think through the many things I’ve accomplished and remember that while this new challenge deserves preparation, humility, and respect, I can do this just like I have many times before.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Hi! I’m Tara Nicolas—a Washington, D.C. native with Haitian roots now calling Brooklyn, NY home. My journey into the arts began at the age of three in Lomé, Togo, and hasn’t slowed down since. After earning my BA from UPenn, I followed my passion to the bustling streets of New York City. You might recognize me from commercials, sharing the stage with Beyonce, or in episodes of FBI and Godfather of Harlem.

Beyond the spotlight, I’ve immersed myself in the world of wellness. My unexpected journey toward lasting health fueled my role as a Global Nike Trainer, Reiki Master, and Meditation Instructor. I’m all about empowering others to discover lasting well-being from the inside out. You’ve probably caught my programming on Nike Training Club, Netflix, Good Morning America, Blavity, Well+Good, Health Magazine, Self Magazine, Cheddar News, and more. When I’m not crafting a dynamic workout for Megan Thee Stallion, catch me savoring dark chocolate, penning my next film, or gearing up for my next Tea Time with T – my quarterly community healing events.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
First and foremost, I would say perseverance. Growing up in an immigrant household, my parents instilled in me a hard work ethic. While they celebrated my passion for the arts, it was clear that excelling academically was the priority. So, if I wanted to take ballet class, I had to come home with high marks. Over the years, this ability to multitask has served me well in all areas of my life, both personally and professionally.

In addition to perseverance, I would say finding the intrinsic value in the work that I do has been crucial. From a young age, I learned the importance of not only working hard but also finding purpose in all my endeavors. Whether it was striving for excellence in my academics to pursuits or excelling in various tasks professionally, I’ve always approached my work with a sense of purpose and dedication.

Last but not least, I’m grateful to have learned the power of introspection and self-assessment at an early age. Growing up, I was encouraged to reflect on my actions, strengths, and areas for improvement. These habits allowed me to gain insight into my own abilities and behaviors, whether it was evaluating my performance in school or reflecting on my interactions with others, this ability to self-assess has been instrumental in shaping my personal and professional development.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m always looking for quality partners to collaborate with that are eco-friendly and prioritize wellness for all. I often work within the food & beverage, luxury hospitality, beauty, and wellness sectors. In the past, I’ve worked with Sol De Janeiro, Brooklyn Tea, Shaz & Kiks, Sony, and MoMa, among others.
