We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tara Chaffiotte Danielle Ganter. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tara Chaffiotte below.
Hi Tara Chaffiotte, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
We believe that the key to overcoming imposter syndrome lies in embracing our unique journey and focusing on innovation. Instead of comparing ourselves and our ideas to others, we channel our energy into understanding what our customers want and need. This customer-centric approach allows us to develop creative, engaging solutions that set us apart and create competitive advantages.
It’s flattering when others look at our ideas and try to replicate them, but without their own innovation, they’ll always be chasing us and implementing things we’ve already pioneered. We see this as a testament to our leadership and ingenuity in the industry.
We constantly remind ourselves that our path forward is about growth and evolution. Every challenge is an opportunity to learn, and every success is a testament to our hard work and dedication. By keeping our eyes on our goals and staying true to our vision, we build confidence in our capabilities and celebrate our unique contributions within the industry.
We are passionate about what we do and eager to bring joy to our customers. This enthusiasm fuels our creativity and drives us to innovate in ways that keep our customers excited and engaged. By focusing on our strengths and continuously pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, we confidently carve out our place in this sweet space.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on our journey with Curbside Confections, three qualities and skills stand out as particularly impactful: customer service, expense management, and project management and process development.
1. Customer Service: Exceptional customer service is at the heart of what we do and providing the “ultimate guest experience” is what we strive to do. Building strong relationships with our customers, understanding their needs, and exceeding their expectations has been vital to our growth. For those starting out, focus on developing excellent communication skills, empathy, and a customer-first mindset. Always seek feedback and use it to improve what you do. Remember, a satisfied customer is your best advocate. Customer satisfaction is equally important as employee satisfaction as happy employees yield happy customers.
2. Expense Management: Managing finances effectively is crucial for any business. Understanding where to allocate resources and how to minimize costs without compromising quality has been a cornerstone of our success. Track your expenses meticulously, create a plan and budget, and always look for ways to optimize spending. It’s about being strategic and making informed decisions that will sustain your business in the long run.
3. Project Management and Process Development: Transitioning from our healthcare careers to running Curbside Confections required strong project management skills. We had to plan, execute, and oversee multiple aspects of the business efficiently and concurrently. Developing streamlined processes ensures that operations run smoothly and that we can scale our business effectively. For newcomers, we suggest honing your project management skills through courses, workshops, or certifications. Develop a clear workflow, set achievable milestones, and continuously evaluate and improve your processes. Always start with a PLAN.
Our journey hasn’t been without challenges. We faced our fair share of naysayers when we decided to leave our successful 15-year careers in healthcare to start this venture. The most important piece of advice we can offer is to take a bet on yourself. Believe in your vision and have the courage to pursue it. Take the time to do the hard work of planning and research to try and prepare as best as possible. Our only regret is not making the leap sooner. Trust in your abilities, stay committed to your goals, and don’t let doubt hold you back.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When we feel overwhelmed, the first thing we do is take a step back and plan. Taking the time to prioritize and focus on what needs to get done and when is crucial. Time management is key, especially with the many moving parts in our professional and personal lives.
We both have families and personal needs, so it’s important for us to spend our time wisely and efficiently. Maintaining a strong work-life balance is always at the forefront of our minds. We strive to do our best each day and ensure we communicate effectively with one another when we need help or when all hands on deck are required to accomplish our goals or meet deadlines.
Here are some strategies we find helpful:
Planning and Prioritization: We start by listing everything that needs to be done and then prioritize tasks based on urgency and importance. This helps us focus on what’s critical and avoid feeling overwhelmed by the sheer volume of work.
Time Management: We allocate specific time blocks for different tasks and stick to them as closely as possible. This disciplined approach helps us stay on track and ensures that we are making the most of our time. We collaborate on initiatives we both need to be involved with and agree on allocated time for those objectives.
Communication: With a lot of moving parts both professionally and personally, communication is essential. We make it a point to check in with each other throughout the day, share updates, and ask for help when needed. This teamwork approach ensures that we are aligned and can tackle challenges together.
Work-Life Balance: We make a conscious effort to balance our work with personal responsibilities. Spending quality time with our families and taking care of our personal needs helps us recharge and stay motivated.
Back to Basics – A Plan: No matter how busy or overwhelmed we get (which happens often!), we always go back to the basics: a plan. Having a clear plan in place provides direction and reduces stress, allowing us to navigate through busy periods more effectively.
Feeling overwhelmed is a common experience as a business owner, but by focusing on planning, prioritization, time management, communication, and maintaining a work-life balance, we manage to stay on top of our responsibilities and achieve our goals. These strategies have been instrumental in helping us manage both the demands of Curbside Confections and our personal lives.
