We recently connected with Tara Jade Fox and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tara Jade, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
In the book “Psycho Cybernetics” is the quote- “you will never out perform the image you hold of yourself”. Therefore, how you view yourself is the absolute most important opinion in your life. You win in your mind before you ever win in reality.
Developing confidence and self esteem is a constant work in progress, when you reach a new level, there is always another level on the other side. Little steps towards loving yourself makes a big difference over a year, 5 years, 10 years…
The best way I have found personally to build confidence and self esteem is putting myself in positions out of my comfort zone- pushing past that barrier forces me out of my head and into my body, proving to myself that I am capable of anything I want to do. Being able to quiet that inner critic is essential to loving yourself…whether that is breathwork, meditation, movement, exercise, etc.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am Tara Jade Fox, an actor, voice artist, performance capture, and keynote speaker. I grew up in theatre and took a break to “grow up and get a real job”. Fortunately, I found my way back to acting with voice acting. From there I expanded into performance capture- think lycra suits with dots all over like Gollum, or Planet of the Apes, or Avatar, if you have seen any of the behind the scenes footage. I also appear in tv and film as well as podcasts interviews.
Recently I have been getting a lot of speaking and teaching requests, so have redesigned my keynote talk and in the process of creating workshops to go along side of it. Behind the scenes hint: one track is for actors, and the other is for non actors! (stay tuned!)
I love intense experiences and can hold big, wild, and outlandish dreams…I am lucky enough to be able to share that with others, helping others see their own own greatness and potential by letting go of those limiting, victim mentality beliefs to step into their favorite version of themselves.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Tenacity for sure! I have always been tenacious, once I start something-I want to see it finished, do it better, faster, etc. The ability to stick to something, to not give up at the first sign of resistance is definitely a quality I am grateful for! Right along side that is the ability to take constructive criticism…being an actor I am constantly getting redirects/adjustments on my performance- the ability to not take it as a negative, but as a positive- its shaping the whole scene, its making me better, it is playing around with different ideas…not a negative at all! Staying in the positive makes it collaborative.
Running and Exercise or Movement is a seemingly random quaility/skill…but I can tell you it is everything!! Ever had a frustrating situation and you just need to “clear your head”? Maybe you walk out the door and around the block, punch a punching bag, or all out sprint? Moving stuck energy is essential not only for your mental health, but your physical health as well! If I am feeling overwhelmed- I start moving in whatever way feels good at that moment- sometimes its running or walking, dancing, or sometimes its just breathing for a few deliberate breaths. I will then put what I am thinking or worried about down on paper so my brain doesn’t feel like it has to hold on to that anymore. It really works, if you try it, you will feel different in some way!
Lastly, constant pursuit. As cheesy as it is- life is a journey, not a destination. I am always seeking to be better, get better, expand my boundaries and horizons. Something scares me…great, let’s go try it out! Always be grateful for where you are at and what you have done, but never settle. Excellence isn’t a level you attain- excellence is a constant pursuit.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am always looking for fun, new collaborations in films or video games, teaching and training workshops, or speaking engagements!
Are you a filmmaker or video game dev? Let’s chat about your new projects! I love brainstorming, acting (obvs), directing, and performance coaching! I have a vast amount of network connections, so while I will not be the right fit for every part/film/game…chances are I know the person who is!
Are you looking to spice up your company’s retreats or trainings? Let’s chat about the fun and dynamic workshops I can facilitate! No mid afternoon slump here…only fun and interactive learning and activities designed to help you step out of your comfort zone and into your next level self!
Needing a speaker for your next event but want something with a little pizzaz? My keynote is on creating the character you want to play in life…by using professional acting techniques to step into the best version of yourself.
