We were lucky to catch up with Tara Temprano recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tara, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I was raised by two amazing individuals who instilled a strong work ethic in my siblings and me. Throughout my career as a public school teacher in New Jersey, I aimed to hone and further the craft of education through research and practice. When I realized I wanted to reach out further to become an entrepreneur, I doused myself in researching education and becoming a businesswoman. My brother and I attended Meet and Greets for Networking Groups where we pitched our ideas to other business people. I joined networks for women and threw myself into the craft of consulting.
Becoming a business woman has turned my passion into a career outside of the classroom walls. Each time I sit down with a client or potential client, my heart races in excitement. This is what I was meant to be doing! As a consultant, I love helping students during the day and helping teachers afterwards.
My family is always behind me and ignites my passion to exceed expectations.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
For two decades, I had the incredible privilege of being an elementary teacher. During those years, I embarked on an extraordinary journey of teaching, learning, and making a difference in the lives of my students. I poured my heart and soul into my work, experiencing moments of joy, and celebration, and even shedding a few tears. It was a rollercoaster of emotions, but it was all worth it.
However, the pinnacle of my career arrived when I was blessed to attend the NJEA-sponsored program aptly named the Teacher Leader Academy, and met and worked alongside an incredible author.
This remarkable individual and program not only supported and validated me, but also inspired me to push my limits, reflect on my practice, and continuously grow. With their and my family and friends’ unwavering cheer and encouragement, I soared to new heights!
Recently I attended the Summer Institute at Drew University where I immersed myself in becoming a National Writing Project Certified Consultant. Through Writing Circle, Writing Marathons, and countless research-based writing techniques, the toolbox of offerings to my clients has grown exponentially!
Now, as fate would have it, I have embarked on a new journey where I can channel my passion for literacy, effective instruction, and caring for others. It’s a thrilling adventure filled with endless possibilities. My heartfelt aspiration is to be that same uplifting influence for my fellow educators, spreading positivity, inspiration, and support every step of the way. Together, we’ll make an even greater impact in the lives of our students and create a brighter future for education. Let’s soar to new heights together!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Passion is essential for embarking on a journey to enhance your craft and become an entrepreneur.
Faith in yourself. With the support of family and friends, you must believe in yourself and the gifts you have to offer.
Organization and Research. Through research and organization, you can formulate a plan and execute it effectively. It is not always easy, but with these qualities on your back, you can move forward.
How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client is a superintendent or curriculum director that aims to enhance their student’s writing abilities because they believe in the power of communication, and they want to ensure their teachers have the professional development that will catapult their student engagement.
I love when I sit down with a client and they are as excited and passionate as I am about helping to create less stressed teachers and more eloquent students.
