Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Taroy Jackson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Taroy, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Growing up I saw my mom and my dad work hard but work smart. So as I got older and things started to fall apart I knew that I had to work and find my niche. They assisted in me finding it because growing up I did a lot of sports broadcasting camps and even though I didn’t follow through with that I was able to figure out I can hold a conversation really well and that I love to talk and that’s how I was able to find my purpose in Podcasting and having my media company Average Joe Media LLC. I started podcasting in 2019 but started my business in 2021. I found my purpose at the right time because I was lost and Podcasting gave me life again and gave me purpose. I was determined and hungry and then I realized not a lot of people during the pandemic wanted to go to the studio so I made Average Joe Media LLC a mobile studio media company so people can record in the comfort of their own home while I bring all my equipment to them.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Taroy Jackson I am from South New Jersey but I have been in Florida since 2007. I attended but didn’t finish Florida A&M university but while I was there I was able to hone on my communication skills and other skills that made sure I was able to hold a conversation. I left Florida A&M around like 2013 and fast forward like six years later I started my first podcast “Thoughts Of An Average Joe” and that slowly became successful and then in 2021 I started my business “Average Joe Media LLC.” Bascially what my business is I am a media company for people who want to start podcasts or use my services and I bring all my equipment to their house or wherever they want to record. I set it up, record, and edit it and I also help them with everything on the backend so they can be successful.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities that were most impactful on my journey I would say is patience, consistency, and networking, I say those three qualities because when I first started my business they people that I recorded with for my podcast became my first clients. They trusted me with their podcast to produce quality content for the podcast and take it to the next level. The first I would say five years for your business is going to the be the hardest you have to have patience and trust the process and trust that is this what you were put on earth to do.
Consistency because in life you have to be consistent whether its podcasting or on social media promoting your business. You have to stay consistent to get eyes on your product because you never know who could be looking at you.
Networking is next because since I started my business all my clients have been through word of mouth meaning people have referred clients to me. I wouldn’t have even been in that position without networking.
Advice for the people would be simple. If you want to work for yourself and own a business you have to push yourself. There are going to be days you don’t want to do it but remember when you give that 9-5 your time you need time to pour back into yourself even if it’s just for a day and schedule out content or a hour a day get into the habit of making time for yourself and pouring back into yourself and it will pay off.
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
Yes the challenge I am currently facing is networking more. People know me but don’t know my brand that includes me going outside more for me to get noticed and that is my challenge. As I get older I love to talk to people but I don’t always like being around people in crowded places I never been one to be the center of attention but I know that if I want more people to know about my business and what I do then I need to show face more so lately I have been forcing myself to go to events more and have been surronding myself more with people who will push me to go outside more and network.
