Meet Taryn Talley

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Taryn Talley a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Taryn, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from the resistance I’ve encountered in my life. If someone knocks me down – I never stay down.

I want to also acknowledge that no one is ever 100% on or or off at any given time. We all stumble or falter as we move through life.

My resilience comes from a strong internal spirit I have, and I got that from my mom, it’s also something that passed to my daughter.

It’s not about being right – its about believing in yourself and what you are capable of and living that every minute of your life.

Friends always say my resilience is my superpower – but there’s nothing super about it – Its just who I am.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’ve been in design and marketing for 28 years… it’s been a long fulfilling career.

Right now I lead marketing efforts for a Growth Marketing Agency in Santa Clara, California. My current position allows me to influence multiple marketing disciplines like event marketing, content marketing and social media marketing. The work is challenging but it’s the most fun I’ve had in a long time.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
For me there are a couple qualities that helped me.

First, it was always learning from the missteps – not fixating on what went wrong – but focused on what could be done differently.

Second, prioritize what’s important in your life. Jobs come and go – keep your focus on the things that fill you up, recharge and strengthen you.

And lastly, be open to possibilities – in your work, your or you personal growth.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
Really, it’s my friends and family – they’ve influenced me over the years.

It’s having those candid conversations – listening to another person’s perspective or approach that has allowed me to grow and thrive
