Meet Tasha Elkovitch

We were lucky to catch up with Tasha Elkovitch recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Tasha, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

I’m an only child. I always knew from a very young age that my parents loved me unconditionally. No matter what, they would support me. They did, however, set boundaries and then extended trust to me as I grew. This really taught me to respect myself and trust myself to make good decisions. I was also bullied quite a bit in junior high. My confidence was definitely rattled, but with my parents’ love and support, I knew that these bullies were in the wrong and I had to just keep moving forward. My tenacity formed during that period and has ultimately helped me throughout life.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m a District Manager for a wine supplier. I work directly with distributors to sell my wine portfolio to the public. I host wine dinners, wine tasting events and travel to wine regions throughout the year. Though it is a sales job, I’ve always viewed wine as an art form and love sharing it with people.

But my biggest accomplishment in life (besides being a mother) is the book I wrote last year. It is a memoir about raising our transgender daughter. Writing had always been another art form I’ve appreciated and I always knew I’d write something of my own someday. Educating the world about transgender youth is so important, now more than ever. Art can truly change people’s lives. My book is called “Mommy, I’m a girl!”

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The ability to listen, have empathy and be tenacious.

If you don’t listen to others, you cannot grow. If you cannot grow, you cannot achieve. Empathy might be the most impactful trait for anyone to possess. You can gain more empathy and insight by listening to those who are different than yourself. And tenacity is all about not giving up. Keep trying, keep learning, keep moving forward. They are work in harmony together.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I’m looking for anyone who can help me share my story with the world. A podcast, a periodical, a TV spot…anyone who can help me explain to the world how amazing trans people are and how deserving they are of love and acceptance. There is so much disinformation out there, especially regarding trans children. I’d love to be a light for other families of trans kids and to open some hearts and minds along the way.
