Meet Tasha Thomas

We recently connected with Tasha Thomas and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Tasha , so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?
I persist despite the haters and nay-sayers by making them my motivator’s. The more they talk against me, the more I’m encouraged to make them out of liars. The God that I serve strengthens me to do all things through him. Therefore, there’s NOTHING a hater can do or say to stop me from fulfilling my purpose. I do invite them to watch God work from the sidelines.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
LaTasha is the Founder/Director Pretty Blessed Girls. Pretty Blessed Girls vision is to be a stellar organization that builds young ladies character, confidence, leadership in their communities, and strive towards academic excellence. Pretty Blessed Girls mission is to enhance social, emotional, growth, and academic success in the lives of girls all over the world. Tasha truly loves working with youth and her team to serve them daily. She describes it as being a very rewarding experience and count it as a blessing to be a part of such an amazing organization.

Pretty Blessed Girls Mentoring Program was established in Fort Worth, Texas on May 28, 2013.Their first initial Mentoring Program meeting day with our girls was Saturday, June 1, 2013.

Their structured sessions include, but not limited to, Keeping It Real Girl Talk, PBG Activity, and PBG LIVE. During Keeping It Real Girl Talk the girls learn a variety of life skills, personal development and have open discussions. PBG Activity is filled with arts and crafts, cooking experiences, sewing, academic enrichment activities, knitting, STEAM activities, and games. PBG LIVE is where the girls learn a variety of Christian Hip Hop Dances, STEP, Mime, Theatre Arts, and Public Speaking.

Annual Girls Trip: The Empowerment Angels (Mentors) take the young ladies on an annual Girl’s Trip. The purpose of this trip is to expose the young ladies to new things outside their community, to meet new people, and learn about new opportunities. They have traveled to Arkansas two times to a Girls Empowerment Conference, Houston, Dallas, and Oklahoma,

Outside of regular meeting days, their Mentees serve faithfully in the community. The girls enjoy every moment of it. They serve with smiles and love in their heart. The girls learn something different from each project. The PBG EmpowHERment Angels (Mentors) conduct Pop Up School and Home visits to ensure that our PBGS (Mentees) stay on track with their Success Plan.

She has three children and four grandchildren. Her background includes childcare, mentoring, and social services. Tasha’s hobbies include mentoring women and girls, shopping, helping others, hanging out with family and friends, helping runaway/homeless youth, traveling, and going to church. She has been a member of KOINONIA Christian Center.

Tasha has received an award and was in the Fort Worth Star Telegram for her commitment to serving her SisterFriend and family through the Fort Worth Birthing Project. The Fort Worth Birthing Project is a project which connects volunteers, called “SisterFriends”, with high-risk, pregnant teenagers in North Texas, with the aim of reducing the area of infant mortality rate. Tasha went above and beyond the call of duty. Tasha received the Greater Fort Worth Area Clubs’ Community Service Award. In May of 2018, Tasha was recognized in the Voyage Dallas Media, for the work that she does with Pretty Blessed Girls Mentoring Program and other young ladies in the community. In 2019, she received an award recognizing Pretty Blessed Girls as the Best Mentoring Program in Fort Worth, Texas.
Tasha received her Bachelors of Christian Education from The DFW Bible Institute and has a Bachelor in Education Studies from Ashford University. She also holds a Childcare Director’s License, Life Coach, Life Purpose Life Coach, and Girl’s Empowerment Coach Certifications.
Tasha has a passion to help women and girls all over the world to turn their negative outlook on life into a positive perspective and to understand their worth in the image of God. Tasha’s favorite scripture she quotes is Philippians 4:13,” I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthen me” because she believes everyone can do anything in life that they put their heart and mind to as long as they stay focused on accomplishing their goals.

Tasha is currently focusing on rebranding Pretty Blessed Girls. She went through a traumatic experience 3 years ago in which she feels as though it has hindered her vision for Pretty Blessed Girls. Her desire is to build a solid team of women to stand along side her to empower the young ladies and their mothers that are assigned to her organization. She also is looking to expand services and partner with other organizations and apartments to provide mentoring and empowerment workshops to their youth.

Tasha is always eager to learn more things, therefore, she’s been attending workshops and a variety of trainings to better equip her to effectively more forward with expanding services to an array of communities. Several people from other states have reached out to her regarding starting a Pretty Blessed Girls chapter. She is preparing to take them up on their offer. So stay tuned, there may be a Pretty Blessed Girls coming to your state or city!!!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I would say three qualities that helped me on my journey would be self- awareness, communication, and positivity. Self-awareness allowed me to see how my actions affected others as well as myself, and to improve my performance. Communication enabled me to connect, motivate, and inspire others, as well as how to handle difficult challenges and changes. Positivity helped me to maintain optimism, confidence, and morale in myself and my team.

Some words of wisdom for folks who are early in their journey, write the vision and make it plain, pray and seek God for your every move. It will prevent a lot of hiccups, disappointments, heartbreaks, frustration, and regrets.

Just know that giving up is NOT an option!!!

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
The challenges that I’m currently facing are not having our own building and lack of funding.

I’m looking to partner with other youth organizations to acquire space and storage or for God to put it on the heart of someone that has a building to bless us.

I’m currently attending Grant Workshops to learn about applying for grants, but due to working a full time job, I don’t have the time to research and write grants. So until God send us a grant writer to join our team, I’m preparing our organization to be grant ready.
