Meet Tasha Whitaker

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tasha Whitaker. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tasha below.

Hi Tasha , so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
Self care is an essential part of my routine that I have developed over time. It took many years working as a healthcare worker and being burnt out to realize how important it is to incorporate self care into my lifestyle on a regular basis. My self care looks different depending on how I feel. It may be spending time outdoors in nature in the quiet, reading, getting my nails done are some of my favorite things. Overall self care is my time for me to relax and have for me to do as I desire. This is a time my family understands I need as a wife and mother to be better in all dimensions of wellness. When I have the time to spend on self, I then have the energy to put forward to my other responsibilities and task and to show up as my best self making me effective in those areas.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Crew Wellness LLC is a Wellness Education Training & Professional Development Company specializing in Community Health Worker (CHW) Certification and Selfcare For Healthcare Worker Trainings. We train individuals to become certified CHWs in the state of Texas that go on to work in hospitals, community centers and other organizations educating and navigating the resources they need in their community. In 16 weeks you become certified and start a new career impacting people in your community. What sets us apart is we provide Professional Development rooted in wellness for healthcare professionals. We take an approach where we are mindful in the training we develop and teach to also incorporate wellness practices that remind healthcare professionals of the importance of self care as they are serving others. In my specialized industry of professional development, public health education updates can change at the snap of your finger with new policies, bills, funding and workforce updates and how it affects healthcare workers and the services they provide and communities we serve. I’m always learning and pouring into my self growth so that I can continue to serve better and lead more efficiently to make impact.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
There have been many lessons I’ve learned over the course of my career to help be successful along the way. The 3 things I would encourage a young professional to develop are the following:

1. Be persistent – When you start a task, see it through and have a strong follow up process. This is helpful in a variety of life situations beyond work as you create a habit of being clear, dependable and consistent in communication.
2. Practice active listening- Many times people listen to respond and miss listening to what a person is saying. Communication is KEY in all jobs and disciplines. You can always improve in communication and active listening will truly help you be a better leader and team player and better person in all capacities and relationships.
3. Self care- Make sure you incorporate self care as a habit early in your career. Making time for yourself as you grow during your career is essential and will help you the further you grow.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
