We were lucky to catch up with Tashena Lynette Stokes recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tashena Lynette, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My journey has been shaped by a rich blend of life experiences, faith, and an unwavering commitment to growth. I am fortunate to have incredible parents with remarkable qualities. My mother, a Doctorate holder and accomplished financial planner, runs her own practice and podcast. My father, a General Motors retiree, dedicated 46 years as an electrician with his Master’s degree. Their guidance instilled in me faith in Jehovah God, a love for education, and a foundation of strong values.
Despite their wisdom, childhood brought its share of challenges. As the eldest, I had to steer through my parents’ divorce, unresolved childhood trauma, and the pressure of always staying strong. Later in life, financial struggles surfaced when the automotive industry faced turmoil, and I had to work through my own divorce.
Whether overcoming personal hardships or guiding others through theirs, I have learned to adapt, persevere, and transform obstacles into lessons.
My deep connection with Jehovah God’s guidance has been my anchor—providing strength and enabling me to find peace even in the most difficult circumstances. Gratitude and prayer are central to how I approach every moment.
At 19, I embraced therapy, and since then, I’ve been an avid student of personal development. My dedication to Emotional Wellness, coupled with my work as a Holistic Wellness Counselor, fuels my ability to actively cultivate resilience—not just for myself, but for those I support. I leverage mindfulness, self-reflection, and emotional processing to ensure balance in every season of life.
I am deeply committed to service and leadership—whether conducting workshops or offering guidance, I empower others to work through their challenges, which in turn strengthens my own ability to lead with wisdom and grace. I always tell everyone: I am my first and foremost client!
My resilience is more than just enduring difficulties—it’s about drawing strength from them, embracing every lesson, and using those experiences to uplift others.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1️⃣ Resilience – The Power to Navigate Challenges
Resilience has shaped my ability to push forward despite setbacks, whether in business or life. Entrepreneurs and leaders face uncertainty, rejection, and tough decisions, but resilience allows them to pivot rather than break under pressure.
✅ Advice for Beginners: Build resilience by embracing failure as part of success, setting small wins, and prioritizing self-care and stress management. Surround yourself with mentors who challenge and support you.
2️⃣ Emotional Intelligence – Leading with Awareness & Connection
Leadership is more than strategy—it’s about understanding emotions, communicating effectively, and building trust. Emotional intelligence has been invaluable in navigating client relationships, business decisions, and personal development.
✅ Advice for Beginners: Strengthen emotional intelligence by practicing active listening, managing emotional reactions, and cultivating empathy. Take time to self-reflect, develop patience, and build authentic connections.
3️⃣ Strategic Adaptability – Knowing When to Pivot
The ability to adjust to shifting landscapes has been critical. Whether working with corporations, entrepreneurs, or small businesses, success often depends on innovation, staying ahead of trends, and making bold yet calculated moves.
✅ Advice for Beginners: Cultivate adaptability by staying informed on industry shifts, embracing continuous learning, and building a strong decision-making process. Learn to analyze risks without fear and be open to change as an opportunity rather than a setback.
Final Thought: True growth comes from balancing knowledge, personal development, and the ability to embrace both success and failure. Wherever you are in your journey, invest in resilience, emotional intelligence, and adaptability, and you’ll set yourself up for long-term success.
