We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tatiana Quintero Garcia. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tatiana below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Tatiana with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I made my own work ethic thanks to the experience I had when I was an employee and I felt that I was being trampled as a person and an employee, I give my employees everything that I would have wanted my former bosses to give me when I worked for other people
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My career as a cook begins with the desire to see the satisfaction on people’s faces when they eat my empanadas and feel grateful to be able to try this product. I love when they return to my stand and say thank you for making this product, when they go and buy more because they already want to have it at home and more when they describe each part of the empanada and want to know what I add to the dough because it has that unique and delicious flavor
I focus on making a striking product for all kinds of people, a product that is gluten-free but delicious and that you can find both vegan, vegetarian or with meat..
It is a product that you can keep for 7 months in your freezer, you can cook it in 15 minutes in your air fryer or in the oven, that’s the coolest thing. not having to dirty the kitchen and having a delicious plate of food ready without the greatest effort
all this is what leads me to make more than 15 flavors and obviously to get another product like the frozen Colombian chorizos and the delicious patacones (green platain), my goal is to have quick food to make, without chemicals, delicious and the best that they can be resting while an air fryer makes them
Every Saturday we are at the Gilbert Farmer Market, Uptown farmer market and we are trying to open others. other places that sell my product are: mi tienda latino in Phoenix, Deseeo cafeteria in Phoenix and Inspire Farm in Mesa
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
For me to be able to take this trip I had to have a lot of motivation and know that I had to sacrifice personal time to be with friends and things that I like to do to work in two places and thus be able to invest, have patience to be able to buy material and equipment little by little. little and obviously too much credibility towards my dreams and my goals for this business
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
The biggest obstacle right now for my business growth are all the rules and all the steps that must be taken to be able to enter a supermarket to sell the frozen product, they ask for a lot of insurance, a lot of software, etc. that we small business people don’t have as we are showing the product to the outside world. Obviously I already have part of your requirements, but if you need to invest in labels, table of contents, barcode, software companies, shipping companies, etc.
