Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tatum Crenshaw-Murphy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tatum, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I keep my creativity alive by constantly dreaming and learning from others! I continually dream about new goals to accomplish. I love being around other creators who help motivate me. I never stay stagnant. Being creative comes in so many different forms. If I’m not focusing on being creative in film, I create in my kitchen. I love to come up with new recipes, learn to create sauces from scratch. I love creating new looks with my hair changing colors and different styles. There are absolutely no limitations on keeping your creativity alive.
The times I know I’m in pocket is when the idea seems crazy and I second guess it, that’s the moment I know it’s my most creative idea.
One thing I always like to remind myself of, is that whatever it is you’re creating don’t look for others to understand it, at least not right away. That can be very discouraging and take away from your ability to continue to bring your creativity to life.
Create what speaks to your soul and brings you joy!!!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
For as long as I can remember, I always loved to create stories, write, talk and entertain. I stepped away from pursuing my dreams when I became a mother. I felt I needed to devote my time to my boys. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with devoting your life to your family, but there comes a time when you have to ask yourself what am I doing for me? I got to a point where I felt everything I did revolved around my family. So I decided to add myself to the mix. My family is still and will always be my priority but now I include myself at the top of the list.
In 2018 I decided to give things a fair shot and focus on my goals and dreams. I started a podcast “All Things Boss” on YouTube which focused on conversations with entrepreneurs in all fields. In 2020, I self published a non-fiction book “Hashtag This” available on Amazon which tells funny stories about my three boys. Then in 2022 I decided to enroll in acting classes. I’ve been ignoring that passion for years because I felt my time had passed. If I listened to that negative thought I wouldn’t be where I am today. Since then I wrote, produced and starred in my first proof of concept short film “I Want Him Dead”. I currently have a fundraiser online to help with production and marketing costs to turn my short film into a series. I’ve been having private screenings in person and online to promote and help with fundraising. My most recent screening was sponsored by AcARRE Beauty in Severna Park, Maryland. My next in person screening will be in Baltimore, Maryland sponsored by LUXE Curated Tables and Hair is my Ministry. Which are all women owned brands.
Since I added myself to the priority list, life has been even more exciting! I love being able to juggle family life, work life and personal time and not feel like something is being neglected. I don’t have to choose I can do it all, I just have to prioritize.
Most recently I just finished filming season 1 of an original series “Love & Brooklyn” created and written by actor Marc Jefferies and Ramona Jefferies. It’s produced by Cue & Coda Films who have a new project on Amazon and Apple called Twisted Hearts. It was such an honor to be apart of this project and still get to learn from Marc and Ramona while on set, for they are both my acting coaches.
I am looking forward to bringing more of my creativity to life one step at a time.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I know we hear this all the time but consistency really is key. Being consistent, resilient, patient and authentic will absolutely help you along any journey. It has worked for me. I’ve had issues maintaining these skills all at once, but once I was able to understand how they all work hand in hand I began to progress so much.
It’s important to stay committed to your dreams and goals. Even when it looks like nothing is happening, stay committed. Even when things don’t go as planned, be resilient, start over if you have to. Patience is so important when going after your goals. It may seem like things happen overnight for others and not for you. With that being said, stop looking at others because that takes away from the energy you need to focus on yourself. Lastly, with everything you do no matter what it is, stay authentic! No one can be you. That’s our superpower.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
One book I can think of that has been very helpful and inspirational is Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra.
The chapters that really stood out for me was the law of giving & the law of pure potentiality. It was stated in the book that when we come into contact with someone we should give a gift. It doesn’t always have to be tangible. Giving a kind word/compliment, prayer or some flowers starts the process of circulation. The more you give the more confidence you will gain & it will bring more things to you and in return the more you can give. I love giving to others and reading this chapter gave so much more substance to the word and knowing my kind words at the very least are impactful.
Lastly, I’d like to share something about the law of potentiality. Chopra stated living in ego is living in fear. It’s a social mask that wants approval, control and power because it lives in fear. But when we live in our true self & spirit it’s completely free of those things. This also ties into my faith that God hasn’t given us a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind.
