We recently connected with Taunie Stoller Ashley Schulze and have shared our conversation below.
Taunie Stoller, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
We’re Taunie and Ashley, two best friends with a love for adventure, a passion for style, and a knack for bringing people together through custom experiences. What started as a shared dream turned into reality when we launched All Around Hat Co. in May 2022. Our inspiration sparked from a couple’s trip to Nashville in January of 2022, where we had the chance to design our own custom hats in a town that thrives on country vibes. It was there that we realized Oregon needed its own version of a hat bar—a place where fashion meets cowgirl style, and everyone could have access to a unique, personalized experience at an affordable price.
From designing one-of-a-kind hats to hosting unforgettable hat bar events, we’ve built our brand around the idea of individuality and connection. Our purpose has always been to create pieces and moments that celebrate the people who wear them, and we continue to put that purpose at the heart of everything we do.
Our creativity plays a huge role in how we grow and evolve as a brand. We’re always learning, exploring new trends, and paying attention to what inspires us. Whether we’re crafting a new hat design or curating an event, our goal is to bring fresh, unique ideas that help our community feel connected and express themselves through fashion.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
All Around Hat Co. is truly our creative outlet, a place where we get to connect with our community, support local events, and express our passion for fashion. While running the business is a dream come true, it’s just one piece of who we are. Both of us have 10+ years of experience in our full-time careers, and those roles continue to shape and inspire how we approach All Around Hat Co.
Taunie is a Sales Account Manager at Central Garden & Pet, where she works closely with animal health distribution centers and eCommerce accounts across the country. Her role has helped her hone her business acumen, which translates directly into how we manage our hat business and interact with customers and partners. On the other hand, Ashley is the Director of Quality at The Springs Senior Living, overseeing a team that provides care to multiple senior communities. This position has given her a strong sense of leadership and organization, skills that are key to balancing the logistics of running a growing business.
When we aren’t wearing our professional hats, our families are at the top of our priorities. Balancing work, family, and All Around Hat Co. can be challenging, but it’s also incredibly rewarding, and it’s our passion that keeps us motivated to push forward.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to roll out new spring product launches, including a fresh collection of felt hats. In the summer, we’ll be adding straw hats to our offerings, which will be perfect for the warmer months. If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, there are three key qualities that have been most impactful in our journey with All Around Hat Co.:
Resilience and Perseverance: Building a business isn’t always easy, and there have definitely been challenges along the way. There were moments where things didn’t go as planned, but our ability to push through, learn from mistakes, and adapt has been a huge factor in our success. We’ve learned that resilience is key—things won’t always go perfectly, but the ability to keep moving forward is what sets successful businesses apart.
Advice: For those just starting out, don’t be afraid to fail. Every setback is a chance to learn and improve. Stay focused on your long-term vision, and don’t let small hiccups derail your passion. It’s all part of the process.
Creative Problem-Solving: As a creative business, being able to think outside the box has been essential. Whether it’s designing unique hats or coming up with fun event concepts, creativity is the heart of what we do. We’ve found that being resourceful and finding creative solutions to unexpected challenges has helped keep us on track and growing.
Advice: Cultivate your creativity by staying curious and open to new ideas. Look for inspiration everywhere—from nature to art, to conversations with friends. Don’t be afraid to try new things, even if they’re outside your comfort zone. Experimentation is where innovation happens.
Community Building: All Around Hat Co. wouldn’t be what it is without the amazing people who support us. Whether it’s customers, collaborators, or fellow small businesses, building meaningful relationships has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey. We’ve learned that fostering a sense of community around your brand is essential—not just for business growth, but for building a network of support that can help you weather the ups and downs.
Advice: Focus on building relationships and connections, not just transactions. Engage with your community, show up for them, and create experiences that go beyond just selling a product. People are more likely to support a brand that feels genuine and connected to their values.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
Our ideal client is anyone looking to express their unique personality through style—whether that’s women, men, or kids. We believe hats are for everyone, and our selection is sized to fit all ages and shapes. Whether you’re planning a bachelorette party, celebrating a birthday, or enjoying a fun date day, we have the perfect hat for any occasion.
We offer a wide variety of styles, from Australian wool and crushable leather to palm leaf and classic straw, so there’s something for everyone. The true magic, though, lies in the customization. We have a collection of designer feathers, concho pins, and other accessories that allow our customers to make each hat their own. For that extra personal touch, we also offer heat branding, so you can add your initials or a special symbol to your hat. It’s these details that really let each individual’s personality shine through.
