Meet Taurea Avant

We recently connected with Taurea Avant and have shared our conversation below.

Taurea , so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?

I would say my optimism comes from all the mess-ups, setbacks, and challenges I’ve faced. Sounds crazy, right? But hear me out. Every time something went wrong, I pushed through and came out stronger.

For example, I once organized a conference, paid for the event space, and arrived to find nothing set up. We had over 100 people coming, and no tables, linens, or vendor setups were ready. So, we smiled, rolled up our sleeves, and did it ourselves. That event turned out amazing despite the chaos.

Then there was the time my heart was shattered into a million pieces. Now, looking back, I see that relationship would have NEVER worked out. I’m incredibly grateful for that now.

So, in the most challenging times, what seemed like setbacks were actually setups for something bigger and better. Knowing that great things are on the other side of challenges keeps me optimistic. Hope that makes sense.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The ability to evolve. Some might not see it as a skill, but I do. In a constantly changing world, you can’t expect to be the best by doing what you did last year. I don’t get emotionally attached to the past; I focus on how to grow and improve. It’s all about evolution and growth.

Being a techie is a blessing for me. Understanding technology, even if I’m not programming like in college, helps me in problem-solving. This skill is super important as a coach because it keeps you in a space of evolution.

I’ve also grown a lot in humility. I know I don’t know everything and never claim to. My growth in humility is about not feeling the need to justify myself or always be right. In coaching, people can praise you one second and act like you never helped them the next. It used to bother me because I work hard to bring value and sometimes forget I have my own business to grow. When someone I’ve invested energy in doesn’t appreciate it, I used to feel the need to defend myself. Now, I let God handle it and focus on those who are with me and those yet to come.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

Right now, my number one challenge is not over-providing. This might sound crazy, but as a coach who loves to over-deliver, it can be a problem. I give so much that it’s hard for my clients to manage it all. So, I’m working on scaling down the deliverables and reinforcing a more simplified foundation.

I had a program where we charged $30,000 per year. Despite offering a ton of amazing things, I realized clients weren’t taking full advantage of all we provided. I had to scale it back, evaluate what they actually used, and make that the focal point.
