Meet Tavon Gibbs

We were lucky to catch up with Tavon Gibbs recently and have shared our conversation below.

Tavon , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

I found my purpose in life from my mother. Growing up, I seen how my mother always helped others and would always go the extra mile to care for others while not having much herself. She was a giver and I’ve always wanted to genuinely help people in life as well, but wasn’t sure how I would help and get the most impact out of it. For a long time, I thought that maybe my purpose wasn’t to serve others, because of how it made me feel sometimes throughout my life, but once my mother passed away, that all Changed. I’ve been able to create a platform in honor of my mother’s death unintentionally. By creating my podcast Talk With Tay, I wanted to just create something for myself to talk about my grief experience with raw and transparent conversations. Little did I know, that this platform would help those out there who are going through the same emotions as me, due to losing a parent or a closed loved one. I never thought I’d be able to discuss things like my mothers death, but by me taking that step forward, it has made others want to have conversations about the grief experience.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I host a podcast called Talk With Tay, where I discuss conversations about Grief & Mental Health experiences. This is a topic, that most people don’t openly talk about and for someone whose dealt with these experiences first hand, I couldn’t hold anything in any longer after suffering from the death of my mother. What makes this platform so special and exciting, is that I get to honor my mother in a way and also heal while helping others heal based off of starting the conversations that are uncomfortable but necessary especially in the black community. I’ve recently launched a new venture with my podcast, offering podcast recording services called Talk With Tay Studio. The purpose of this venture is to offer mobile podcast services and in home sessions at my personal studio for an extremely generous price. I’ve learned that since starting my podcast and learning how to record, edit, and produce content professionally, because I wanted to record as much as possible, not everyone has the luxury of doing so. This is a passion business, where I get to deliver podcast services either mobile or in home and get to teach those that may need some help launching and getting quality content out to the world.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I definitely education overall is the most important. With me being college educated at a gradual level, it really taught me how to be my own teach of things. The best step you can always take early in your journey is educating yourself. Go and find things first before asking someone else, you never know what you may find and learn while doing so. Research, read, and watch videos to constantly stay on the learning curve, you’re always going to be learning something new, regardless of what’s being pursued.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I’m definitely looking for folks to partner or collaborate with in the media space. I’m looking to work with other podcast creators, community groups, videographers, photographers, and also those who are in the film making space such as short-film projects, directors, etc. I’ve recently started to pursue my acting career and have a few projects that are public featuring me.
