We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Taylor Adams. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Taylor below.
Hi Taylor, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Finding your purpose is essential when you have your own business. Starting out I really started my business to make money which is still a lovely part of it but if that’s my whole purpose I would not be in business anymore. When the times get tough you have to have a good meaning or purpose to what you are doing it. To me, my purpose was capturing the true selves of my clients. That is one of the main reasons that I got into boudoir photography is because I wanted to help people see themselves as beautiful as I see them! This is why you will see more candid shoots and not as many posed because I want to capture those moments that you can’t make happen!
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a boudoir, couples, and family photographer that is based in South Carolina. I started my business in 2019 after my son was born to bring some extra income in and I would never have imagined where my business would grow and change from then. I am from Southern Utah and met my husband there. We have two children and a dog. We just moved to South Carolina and bought a house. I have loved meeting new clients and finding new beautiful locations to shoot. I love getting to know my clients and who they are and helping them shine through their photos. Photography and sharing my passion with others brings me so much joy. I have a new home studio for boudoir photography and now doing beach photos in Charleston and Myrtle Beach. Those in Utah and Nevada, don’t worry I will still be coming back every year to take photos!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three most important things I think have impacted my journey is one to not being afraid to ask for help and reach out to others to do mentorships and finding anything to increase your knowledge of your camera as well as everything to do on the business side of it. Second, go out and take tons of photos! Get to know your camera with different lighting so you can easily change it depending on different lighting each session. Third, don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and get to know your social media. As a photographer, social media is very important TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook this is where you can grow your business the most.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
The particular challenge that I am facing is being in a whole new state and different side of the country I am starting over with all new clients and locations. Luckily I have the knowledge from the past 4 years of what works best and put that into my advertising to gain clients here!
