Hi Taylor, thank you so much for agreeing to open up about a sensitive and personal topic like being fired or laid-off. Unfortunately, there has been a rise in layoffs recently and so your insight and experience with overcoming being let go is relevant to so many in the community.
After spending 8 months at a very well known East County day spa, I was laid off along with the entire team. We were only given one month’s notice of our beloved work place closing, and unfortunately this was just before the holidays at the end of the year.
I took to indeed immediately and did not see any Esthetician jobs that I was not extremely overqualified for.
That is the moment I knew my dream of going solo was about to come true, even though I didn’t know how just yet. I had to use up my savings and got a credit card to make some necessary business purchases.
After spending a week or two getting all my work items together I started looking for a suite to rent and was very generously offered one from a mutual friend. I stayed at that salon for about 4 months before moving to a larger location closer to home.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I struggled with Acne Vulgaris for many years. It is a gut originating type of Cystic Acne that is in my case related to my IBS, a chronic digestive disorder.
Researching treatment regimens for my own acne is what lead me to become so passionate about skin care. I took a short summer vacation after graduating high school and enrolled in esthetician school to turn a growing interest into a career and passion!
In the skin department I specialize in Acne, Sensitive/Sensitized Skin, and Anti-aging Treatments using nature derived ingredients.
My passion lies so heavily in naturally healing the skin that I decided to launch my own serum ‘Skin Balancing Complex.’ It is full of super amazing ingredients that reverse free radical damage, kill bacteria, and calm inflammation.
Some other services that I learned to absolutely love providing are Natural Classic Eyelash Extensions, Brazilian Waxes, Back Treatments, and Brow Waxes!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Finding your passion & drive.
Without a personal passion, what is your driving force? It would likely be the expected narrative written for you by your family. So, get out and write your own story!
Setting goals.
Without goal setting you are playing your whole life by ear. I’m sure we can all agree that having a plan helps you find reason to do what you do!
Having Empathy.
You get so much more from your journey if you take the time to put yourself in other people’s shoes. You will learn more than you ever thought, anywhere you go.
How would you describe your ideal client?
I take pride in using the cleanest, simplest, most natural formulations available in commercial skincare while still maintaining the expectation of delivering cosmetic improvements of the skin to my clients.

I am looking for people that are trying to improve the appearance of the skin over time with gentle yet effective treatments and homecare recommendations.
