We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Taylor Knese. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Taylor below.
Taylor, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Since I was seven years old, I knew I wanted to heal people. My path into medicine began with nursing, driven by a love for bedside care and a desire to make a real difference in people’s lives. Growing up, I was surrounded by family members with chronic health issues—my grandmother, in particular, struggled with multiple conditions. Watching her, I felt helpless, but it sparked a truth within me. I wanted to understand how to heal people.
Working as a nurse practitioner in primary care was my dream realized, but it came with unforeseen challenges. The high-stress environment left little room for connection. I often found myself rushing through 10 to 15 minute appointments, feeling like I couldn’t truly address patients’ needs. Like so many in primary care, I had come to make a difference, yet the system seemed to prioritize speed over depth, leaving my patients—without lasting solutions.
It wasn’t until I faced my own health struggles that the impact of this limited health approach hit me personally. Suddenly, I was the patient, struggling with a range of symptoms: asthma, psoriasis, depression, anxiety, ADHD, weight gain, and persistent acne. I felt lost, frustrated by the lack of answers and sustained support. Healing began to feel out of reach, not just for my patients but for myself as well.
Then, I discovered functional medicine—a field that focuses on root causes rather than quick fixes. For the first time, I experienced true healing, guided by a holistic approach that looked at me as a whole person, not just a list of symptoms. My personal transformation reignited my passion for healthcare and set me on a new path.
Through healing myself, I realized I could offer people the kind of care I had once longed for. I had found my true purpose, not just in medicine, but in guiding others toward genuine wellness. Often, our greatest purpose emerges from our own journey, and mine had led me to a place where I could finally fulfill my childhood dream—helping others heal fully and sustainably.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a Functional Health Practitioner and the founder of Mod Health Co., a wellness company dedicated to transforming women’s health through a personalized, functional approach. After years working as a nurse practitioner in conventional medicine, I witnessed firsthand the limitations of short appointments and symptom-based treatments. My own struggle with chronic symptoms led me to functional medicine, a holistic approach that prioritizes finding and addressing root causes. That personal journey inspired me to create Mod Health Co., where I work closely with women, empowering them to regain control of their health and vitality.
Our focus at Mod Health Co. is simple yet profound: we’re here to guide our clients toward lasting wellness. Our services are designed for women, especially those navigating complex health issues like hormonal imbalances, digestive concerns, and persistent fatigue—conditions often overlooked by conventional healthcare.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, there are three qualities have been essential to my journey: investing in good mentors, embracing the beginner’s mindset, and taking “messy action.” A mentor can provide invaluable guidance, help you avoid major business mistakes and offer massive insights that fast-track your growth. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the wisdom and support of mentors who understood my vision and pushed me to pursue it.
Equally important is the willingness to be a beginner. Starting anything new requires humility and openness to learning, which allows you to grow faster and develop resilience. Finally, don’t wait for things to be perfect—take messy action! It’s easy to get caught up in planning, but progress is made by doing. Move forward, adapt along the way, and remember that action, even imperfect action, is the foundation of success.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes, I’m always looking to connect with like-minded business owners who share the belief that health truly is wealth. Collaborating with others in the wellness industry has been instrumental to my growth as an entrepreneur and has also helped expand Mod Health Co.’s impact. I’m particularly interested in partnering with businesses that want to bring an element of health and wellness into the workplace—whether through educational programs, wellness resources, or collaborative events aimed at empowering employees to take charge of their well-being.
If you’re a wellness professional or business owner looking to collaborate, or simply want to connect, I’d love to hear from you. Whether it’s sharing knowledge or exploring creative ways to work together, I believe that collaboration strengthens our community and amplifies our mission.
